I think the reason ben didnt go into the church is that he isnt dead yet. He may still be on the island or not we will never know. I didnt really like the ending i was still wanting more. I REALLY want to see how hurley did running the island. But oh well it was good.

Actually, I thought about it and I think he is dead. In the purgatory world he knows Alex and her mom... Remember how they invited him for dinner and Rousseau told Ben he is the closest thing to a father Alex has ever had... he started crying. He remembered the island and everything when Desmond beat the crap out of him, meaning before the dinner he knew Alex was his daughter on the island and he knew at that point that he was dead and in purgatory. He wasn't ready to move on because now in purgatory he has a chance to spend time with Alex, and he wants to take advantage of that. Same goes for Faraday's mother. Remember, in the 70's, she shot Faraday? In the purgatory world, she asked Desmond if he was taking her son, and he replied, "Not with me, no." Meaning he was letting Faraday stay there to spend more time with with her. For the mistakes they made in their lives, they now have a chance to spend time with the ones those mistakes made them lose.

Here is an awesome video I found on youtube... I'm going to miss this show so hardcore, you don't even know...

This was a fantastic show. I'm proud to have watched all of it. It was a prefect ending for a perfect series, I agee with Incub I think those theories make sense. I'm sure they'll have some kind of bonus on the DVD's to explain everything. Now I just dont want House to end.

I believe that's the reason they left so much unanswered... They want you to be thinking about it for a long time after it's over and come up with your own answers. I'm slowly figuring everything out to make the most logical sense as every day passes.

The sideways world was purgatory where they were waiting to help Jack move on... We last see the island when Jack dies (the closeup of his eye) but there's much more that happens after Jack dies... Everyone dies at different times, but they all come together in the sideways world to move on to "the light"---- heaven.

Proof of this is when Hurley tells Ben "You were a good number 2." Much more happened after Jack saved the island. If Jack hadn't saved the island, they wouldn't have had a way to come together and help each other move on to "the light." The stained glass windows showing different religions shows that they left it open to interpretation according to your own beliefs.

In my opinion, a perfect ending to one of the best series of all time.

The scene that hightlights the writer's brilliance is from a couple of seasons ago when claire and christian shepherd were sitting in Jacob's hut together. Then two series later you realise it was the smoke monster befriending claire.

I think Ben didn't want to go into the church because he was so bad in his life. But then again, he would of had redemption later on as being Hurley's number 2, so i'm unsure. But that was what I was thinking when I saw him stay outside.

I think he needed longer to come to terms with what he had done.
[/quote]

Yea, thats a good way of putting it. He seemed like he needed time to think or something. He was a "bad" guy for a vast majority of the series, and really the only time when we knew he did good, was at the very end with Hurley. Although it could be that he wanted to stay with Alex for a little longer. All I know, is i wish they were a little more clear. I'm not a fan of when things are being left up to interpretation.

its a relief that everyone in here actually gets what really happened . many, many people ive talked to think that they initially died in the plane crash and the island was purgatory (so then....wtf was the sideways world?!? heaven?!) it doesnt make any sense when explained that way, because how could they have formed such strong relationships while in purgatory? what would have even been the point of the show at all? (the dharma initiative, ect ect). people are really pretty stupid. there was even an article (i think it was in the LA times) written after the finale summing things up by someone that believed that was the case. *facepalm*

thing is, i didnt like how it ended. i didnt like how the show's focus went from the island and all of its mysteries, to focusing almost entirely on the characters. don't get me wrong, strong character development is a MUST in any show, movie, book, videogame, ect. that i watch/read/play, but the story is just important to me. and Lost's story was severely shorted in my opinion, because it pretty much went nowhere. barely any of our burning questions were explaned. it reminds me of this anime i once watched, called "Spiral", and its tagline was "Who are the blade children?" and then the show NEVER explains who the fuck the stupid blade children are!!!!

for years now, we've all wanted to know what this island was, why it was there, and we're left with....pretty much jack shit. yay, they all die and find each other and go to heaven together.

sappy as fuck ending.

I saw an online article from the Washington Post where the guy who wrote it basically said "the ending sucked because they were dead the whole time...." Idiots.

We now know what the island is and why it is there... The island is what houses the light (the island's heart), which enables people to go to the afterlife. Without the light, people would simply cease to exist when they die. There wouldn't be an afterlife. By Jack saving the island, he enabled the afterlife to remain intact and they were able to meet up in the purgatory world so they could move on together. They all needed each other to move on. The light must be protected from people who do not understand it- the Man in Black, the Dharma Initiative (they wanted to harness its energy), etc...

The more I think about it the more stuff falls in place.

I won't be satisfied until I know where/when the Taweret statue (along with the temples too) came from. I know its the goddess of childbirth and fertility of ancient Egypt (so it does tie into the story line in some respect), but that still doesn't go too far into why its there/how it got there.

AHH FUCK YOU LOST.

agreed. and not to mention, the show's creators are the ones that "confirmed" that the statue was Taweret, but they are clearly not up to snuff with their egyptian mythology. the statue would more likely be that of Sobek, the egyptian deification of crocodiles as well as one of the creator gods. the lost statue's gender is clearly male, while tawaret is a female goddess. i've attached an image of the lost statue, an idol of Sobek, and a statue of tawaret so you can see what i mean. (this idol in particular shows sobek wearing a tall headdress, while the lost statue is not, but sobek is shown with or without one depending on the artisitc depiction).

it would kind of make sense if it WAS tawaret, considering her being a goddess of childbirth and fertility, but unfortunately, its an inaccurate representation or perhaps the lost creators were a bit confused...and besides, it being sobek makes a hell of a lot MORE sense than tawaret even would.

furthermore, if you read up on the whole myth of the struggle and rivalry between Set and Sobek, it draws some extremely interesting parallels between jacob and the man in black. of course, we never were given any further explaination of any of the egyptian mythology that was a fairly common theme on the show. it was something that i was pretty certain they were going to touch upon (which was why i was so sorely disappointed in the jacob/MIB origins episode) and then they never did.

google "set sobek and lost" and you'll see that i'm not the only one that had that theory. of course, it doesn't make much of a difference now since the show is over and they gave us absolute squat in regards to that theory (or even anything to do with the faulty tawaret), but it is still pretty interesting to see how closely set and sobek mirror jacob and the MIB.

I can't remember where I saw it, but the source said that the statue was built by the ancient Egyptians to protect the light and island, so apparently the Egyptians were in on it way back in their day.

EDIT: My gf told me the source was that Kristin girl from E! Online... she has gotten inside stuff from the cast and creators of the show all six seasons long.

There was an interview where one of the creators said the Egyptians built it. The other guy just kind of looked at him with the "what the fuck are you talking about?" look on his face. Who knows haha. I'll try to dig it up later.

The bonus videos of Ben/Hurley from the box set will shed some light on some of the mythology that was never explained during the show according to Michael Emerson. But too bad 15 minutes wont be enough time to give us some solid answers.

They left enough out in the open for there to be hours of footage required to explain the significant stuff that was never touched before the end.

Haha, that's awesome!

Yeah, getting the Dharma Initiative symbol on my right inner forearm.

Need more... I need more...

More Hurley as the protector

More of the founding and running of Darhma (More of the science projects)

At lest 2 seasons of the creation of the island building and temple building and all the cool stuff the island can do.

and at least 3 seasons of other people between Jacob being protector and the oceanic crash.
