D15L
i just wanted to share this lil experience with ya'll cause i jus need to let it out... i was smoking shisha with my friends earlier this evening and when we were about to leave, one of my friends put the coal in a paper towel and it burn through and made this black burn mark in my carpet! we somehow got it to look a bit more like a stain mark but its right in the middle of my living room. Soooo depressed right now... hope my mom doesn't see
gambit13
Sucks dude. My frat house is full of burns on carpets, tables, and even human flesh. I think my setup for the summer is going to be outside on my balcony or on top of a baking sheet or something.
DownZero
Well it sounds like it didn't burn all the way down to the cement, so you got the best of it. My friend's old apartment was full of burn holes to the concrete... and burning carpet smells really bad. hah. Lucky for him that he was... doing a little favor for... or with the manager of the complex. You should invest in a cheap rug or some sort of floor mat for smoking. thepyrofish
Also, if it didn't burn too far down the carpet, you can cut down the burnt bit to make it look almost completely normal again. It'll be a hair shorter though.
crazieshef
I have left a carpet hole everywhere I have smoked. Now you know that your a true smoker. It happens, what can you do?
D15L
yeah it was a burn mark the size of a quarter. haha pissed me off pretty bad but me, my brother and friends fixed it by cutting out the burn mark and replacing it with extra carpet that we had. I'm very cautious about doing shisha in my house now

TCNJHookah
Is nobody going to comment on the fact that someone put a burning coal in a PAPER TOWEL and thought that it wouldn't burn through? I don't mean to be a dick, but that's just plain stupid. That's just asking for a hole in the carpet.

I don't know, just trying to figure out the reason why a paper towel came into play. Either way, burning the carpet happens, no matter how careful you are. gambit13
One of my drunk frat bros tried to pick it up from the ground and place it back on top the bowl. Not a good idea....
Buford
I burned a couple small spots in the vinyl flooring in the kitchen yesterday when a Nour coal I was heating on the stove exploded and sent embers across the room. I didn't even realize that there were chunks on the floor (it looked like the only thing that went flying was charcoal dust) until I stepped on it with bare feet.Weird thing is that it barely hurt afterwards although it left a mark on my foot. The floor didn't escape damage, though.
D15L
yeahh usually i wet like 2 or 3 pieces of paper towel and put them on top of each other than i put the coal on it, but that nite i left the paper towel on the ground and went to clean the hose, my friend jus put the coal on the dry paper towel and when i came back i saw a black burnt circle in the middle of my living room
Lukasa
I made a bigger ash-plate by covering a paper plate with tin-foil and making a hole in the middle and placing it over the stem. This has helped avoid 90% of accidents that would otherwise result in burnt carpet.

Macho555
I just use a wind cover, no matter if I'm indoors or out. The one time that my Baby actually DID get tipped over the coal never even hit the ground. (Plus the wind cover helps with the heat) I do like the idea of a hookah mat though...mine slides around a little too much for my liking, and the extra protection would be nice. Buford
I use a cheap plastic placemat from Target under my shisha to protect the table it's on. Yes, plastic does melt, but the times I've dropped hot bits of coal on it only left surface marks in the plastic since I was quick to get them up. Plus, it catches stray ash that misses the tray and is a place to cut Nours. Mine has surface cuts on it from my little handsaw, but I have never cut through it. Lakemonster
I had a coal end up going down betwen the cusions in the couch (lucky there). That was fun fishin that rascal out. It burned deep... luckily, where it cant be seen. I had a few carpet burns in my old place. Cheap rugs rock.
Sonthert
Some more thoughts: I like the big plastic things they sell at Office Depot or whatnot, you know for under and office chair. Scrap plywood and particle board work good, too. There's a guy, who owns the Cairo Cafe, here in SD, if you ask for hot coals, he brings them out without tongs...in his hand/fingers! If you get over towards San Diego ,try his lounge out. He doesn't serve Tangiers, but nobody's perfect.
mserr
that's stupid. hookah coals are hot? really? you're kidding me. your friend is dumb for putting it in a paper towel.

Catalyst Paintball
After dropping a sliver of a hot coal down my wood deck, I now have a sacraficial soup bowl that I use to heat my coals outside, and then bring them inside.
