Whats the about these things? Some people swear by 'em, some say you lose the"hubble bubble" sound. To me, the purist and traditionalist, I would miss that sound. That's me, I wouldn't smoke an acrylic hookah, not to down modern technology, and love the shape of an old bell vase. But, I ramble, what's the pros and cons on these diffusers. Thanks in advance for posts.

People say that you get a better stronger flavor. And don't buy one, they are like 10 bucks, you can make one. There was a post in the how to thread about using a sink screen. That sound pretty easy and it makes sense.

no diffuser: bubbling sound
with diffuser: less bubbling sound + added restriction

that's about it.

Really? I felt like it was less...

It just quiets the hookah mostly. Good for watching a movie or smoking on the down low...

Thanks, you saved me a couple of bucks.

I disagree with the comment above about restriction. When I use a diffuser the pull actually feels smoother to me, and without the draw feels like it comes more in spurts than anything else.
I have one of the H-S diffusers and a few I made with ping-pong balls I cut up.

You're forcing the smoke to pass through many smaller holes rather than just flow out of the stem, so it's obvious that it's going to restrict the flow a tad. As far as I know, it's supposed to make the smoke smoother, although I think it's up for discussion. I added one to my hookah because it was supposedly a cheap way to improve your smoke, but honestly, I couldn't really tell you if it does anything.

The ways they claim they improve smoke may be true. Think about less big bubbles Vs. more little bubbles and how surface area changes how much smoke touches the water. There is a really good article explaining it somewhere on hookah-shisha.

I've used with and with out on both my hookahs. and in my personal experience the draw was smoother. I personally had no restrictions. I think it's a great little device. However having said this I know that peoples experiences differ from one person to the next. So i'm giving you my experience and not speaking for everyone.

I use a Heba diffuser with my Mya Diva. I don't notice a difference in restriction. I like it because I can operate my hookah in whisper mode.

Other than smoother-feeling pull, the main reason I keep mine on the KM's is so the trays don't rattle. The loud bubbling doesn't bother me too much but the tray rattle drives me completely crazy. Especially on the pharonie.

I have one, but barely use it anymore. It does slightly restrict the pull, though its not terrible.

Kind of worthless, aside from the quietness. I suppose it would help stop try rattle if you have that problem, but neither of my KMs rattle, including the Pharonie. ;)

We just recently started selling the HEBA deffusers at my lounge. I LOVE THEM!

I've only tried it on a couple of KM's, but I get no restriction whatsoever. I also notice the smoke being a tad bit cooler. What I like the most is how quiet and smooth the pull is. It really changes the experience when you can't feel anything going on in the hookah whatsoever. I dig it.

[font="Century Gothic"]Diffusers are a waste of money! It's really pointless. I tried a medium sizes one on my hookah and rather a hookah without one!

While I can't say I have noticed any difference in pull or flavor, I consider a diffuser an essential. I can't stand the tray rattle, and the diffuser completely gets rid of that for me. It does eliminate the bubbling, but that does not bother me one bit.

The diffuser I think is a small improvement. Perhaps 5% - 10% cooling?? The theory goes something like this. Instead of one big bubble coming out of the downstem the diffuser creates many little bubbles. Due to the smaller size and the increased surface area of many little bubbles vs the one big bubble the water has a chance to cool the little bubbles faster than the one big bubble. Sounds logical to me. Same principle is applied to cooling fins on an engine. The idea of cooling is to increase the surface area of the object to be cooled. I helped one of my engineering buddys write a computer model of how the increased surface area affects the cooling of the engine. It's science man.....
