ihcake
The 411: I'm an ex-cigarette smoker of a few years. Started back when I was about 16 or so, smoking a pack every couple of days. Eventually, I started noticing that I would get an extreme cough in the spring, fall and winter seasons. I finally went to a doctor and got diagnosed with CH bronchitis. It's been a little over a year now since I've quit smoking cigarettes, however I continue to smoke hookah. I notice my lungs don't feel as heavy since I've stopped smoking cigarettes, but I continue to get the bad coughing during the seasons. My question is, could this be due to the fact that I still smoke hookah? I'm sure it's not helping, but I figured with hookah not being as extreme and nasty as cigarettes, perhaps my cough wouldn't be as bad or even go away. I think my only solution to ending my cough for good is to quit smoking hookah altogether. Which......SUCKS! Ideas?
thatonethere
This is a very good question, since I'm in the same boat myself. I hope someone jumps on this one.
Arcane
it's probably allergies... stop smoking hookah for a couple weeks...even a month....if you're still coughing, allergies...
ihcake
Yeah, considering I work at the lounge my boyfriend owns, I'd really hate to quit my job because of my health, but I gotta do what I need to in order to stay healthy. Sucks so bad!
I have allergies as well, but mostly to pollen. I live in South Dakota and our winter consists of 8 months of the year. I don't see how I can have allergies to pollen in the middle of January.
maybe you're allergic to South Dakota! honestly, i was just thinking of excuses so you wouldn't have to quit smoking hookah...ha!! if you smoke daily, i'd really consider taking a break...maybe just give your throat/lungs/whatever time to recover....you never know, they may end up stronger than before!! Massive storm on the way....
Arcane
never worked in a lounge and just from what ih303 has mentioned, your lounge seems to take it's sessions seriously....so, i guess you're practically required to test out the hookah before serving...then again, would it be possible to have someone else take a pull for you and let you know its good? just random ideas... i think you'd have the same issue with herbal...it might be the introduction of foreign particles (i.e. smoke) into your system... then again, there's a bunch of junk in the air too... thatonethere
Ihcake, do you have shortness of breath? Sometimes I find it takes some effort to breathe.
kajon
I have had asthma since I was 5 and then for years it seemed to go away. Then I started smoking hookah and it came back. I smoked everyday for a few weeks and I got this terrible cough and I started to wheeze a little bit, so I took a few weeks break and the cough went away. What I do now is smoke once or twice a week and if I feel bad I just take a few weeks break.
ihcake
I do have shortness of breath. That's pretty typical. Perhaps I will just have someone start the hookahs for me. But then I run into the issue of busy nights the lounge gets a little smokey. Oh well.
bobbo21
Bronchitis will not just go away by itself and even small amounts of smoke will inflame the lungs. You're going to need to stop smoking for a while until it clears. Are you coughing up any mucus? What color is it? I think we can rule out allergies as it's odd to diagnose allergies that occur 3 out of the 4 seasons. Cold, dry air can be harsh on your lungs, so combine that with smoking and that's probably the culprit. I'm not saying you need to stop smoking (although this is what a doctor would tell you), but definitely take a break for a while.
