Sex And The City 2...Seriously...

O.K. so yeah, I saw it, insert gay joke here ----> [].

Out of the way? O.K. good.

Now the movie's majority was set in Abu Dabi right? Um, no. First of all, the "Abu Dabi" shots were all completely done in Morroco, UAE didn't even order the movie to be showed because they said it was "disrespectful;" why was that I thought? That's the review that made me want to see it more than anything, out of curiosity.

Oh. My. <insert whatever here>.

No wonder UAE doesn't want that movie depicting their country, it was nothing more than a political satire making all arabs and Muslims especially look like crazed religious zealots who are no more slaves than they are angry/rebels against the traditions of Islam. They TRIED to make it have a good message, oh yes, they tried. And I knew what they were going for -- but they failed, failed so hard. I don't want to give any plot points away for people who didn't see it on the release so I'll save that for later.

But honestly, the fact that this movie was allowed to be written, produced, and released without anyone saying "hey, um, you're retarded" is completely disgusting.

It is exactly this kind of politio-pop-culture SHIT that is being produced that propogates such retardation and ignorance in the world, ESPECIALLY THE UNITED STATES.

I'll stop here before I give anything away but I want to hear from others who have seen this movie (no, the previews don't count).

Why am I not surprised? When it comes to portraying other cultures and people, America successfully FAILS at that (which is funny considering this country is affectionally referred to as "the melting pot"). America has a very long history of spouting propaganda at anybody and every country the media or government decides it's necessary to fear or hate for the time being.

I have no desire to see anything Sex in the City related. I tried to check out the show once and I was greatly annoyed with it. I'm surprised the show is still going on.

Kudos for sitting through it. I don't know how I could, and I'm a woman. You my friend have some serious balls.

That alone deserves 20 rep points.

Well the entire series isn't as fail as the 2nd movie, in fact, the series was actually quite good overall and broke many of the boundaries that many young women take for granted in the United States today. With that being said this is the 5th movie I've seen this MONTH that was produced in a post 9/11 world that tried to commodify the image of Muslims and Middle East in one way or another. This one was the first one out of those five made in the US, two of them were french, one was spanish, one was german. This movie, as disgusting as it was, actually gave me a wonderful idea for my thesis paper that I never thought of -- looking at the portayal of religion in modern pop-culture in the United States particularly.

Waiting to see other people's reactions who seen the movie, maybe I'm the only one who feels this way about it, and before anyone says it, yes I know it's Hollywood, yes I know it's based on NOTHING in the real world, it's a ficticious series, ect....whatever -- don't portray it incorrectly whether or not you're taking it seriously or not.

Oddly enough, there's a smilie thing that depicts exactly the way I feel Hollywood took this movie:

Think of the fish as culture and the girl as the attempts to hit the culture, while a few stabs were correct and right on target, there were too many that wern't to be made up for with the ones that were right.

Can we start with the fact that they were using 3K coals on the rotating egyptian hookahs in Abu Dabi and not natural bulk coals on syrians? :)
