NEO_WRX
Now, with all the popular reviews for the Tangiers Shisha i had been very excited to try them. So far i've tried lemon lime, cocoa, juicy peach and pear. They were all decent, at best...because i just couldn't seem to get the bowls to smoke properly. So i came on here, and got a few tips. I kept trying but it still seemed like a lost cause. It was hot smoke, it was harsh...it was thin and grey. I wondered why everyone else was raving about these thick white clouds of smooth falvorful Tangiers. I went to a local Hookah-lounge last night to see a friend of mine (he's the manager) and since they didn't open for an hour he pulled out his own private hookah and packed a bowl of Tangiers passion fruit. I didn't want to be rude and turn down a free bowl, but i was still skeptical about the Tangiers. With the first draw...all of that went away. This bowl was incredibly flavorful, completely smooth white smoke that slowly escaped from my mouth as a sank deeper into one of the couches, enjoying a buzz that pretty much knocked me on my ass. I finally understand why everyone has such positive things to say about Tangiers. It's tricky, but don't give up...because when it finally comes together it seems like it's worth all the failed experiments.
TJ Perry
Find out EXACTLY what he does to set up his bowl. I've got blueberry and red tea and I've tried about ten different ways of setting up to smoke and none have come out successful. Thin and grey as they say. Tangiers has been incredibly helpful about helping me getting it to work, and I'm still waiting a bit before I decide to trade the flavors I have to someone for some fahker or something like that, but I'd really like to get this stuff to smoke properly before I give it a thumbs up or down. Sonthert
TJ, PM me your Address again, please...I lost it. I'm glad you got it to work. If you could find out and tell us, it would help everybody...it must be something simple...
NEO_WRX
we were smoking out of an MYA QT. with a very nice hose. He took out the plastic bin the shisha was in and swirled it around with the tongs. Just breaking it up in the bin, than he took a pretty good chunk of Shisha and placed it right in the middle of the bowl. Than he took the tongs and knocked down the top into the side of the bowl and just barely tapped it down so it's flush with the top of the bowl. Almost sticking out actually. Than he lightly put the foil over it. He took out a small knife and poked his holes with the tip. He put one right in the center and than just went out in a circular pattern all the way around the bowl. We used 1 3 Kings coal that he set down right in the center. He took 1 very slow draw from the hose, than he moved the coal out to the edge. A few more slow pulls..than he moved the coal to another edge. He did that in about 4 different places. The first few draws were still thin. Not harsh at all, very falvorful but very thin. After about 5 minutes once the bowl started to heat up than it began to smoke like a champ. We didn't really even have to adjust the coal very much, just move it around the bowl every now and than. i hope that helped.
Sonthert
Big holes or small holes in the foil?
NEO_WRX
Big holes or small holes in the foil?
well, it was with a pocket knife tip..so they were more sqaure than round holes. Probably 1/16 of an inch(at the largest). surprisingly long...but thin...so we didn't have any problem with ash than you would with big a round hole. TJ Perry
That's pretty much what I'm doing, only I'm using really thick toothpicks to poke the holes. I'd think square holes wouldn't be as good for smoking since air would pass through the corners and heat them up less uniform in comparison to round holes. I could be completely anal about this. though.
Sonthert
I use square holes...I use an oyster fork to poke holes and put the tobacco in the bowl, I usually poke around 100-120 holes that are roughly 1/16-1/32 " on a side.
