Phunnel Bowl And Coal Issues

Recommended Posts

Hello All,

I just purchased the Phunnel Bowl, a pack of 3 kings 40mm coals and a pack of 33mm golden coals.

Here is my issue, whenever I smoke using a 33mm coal and the phunnel bowl my hookah tastes amazing! As soon as I switch over to the 40mm 3 kings coal, my hookah starts to taste strange with a burned taste???

What in the world am I doing wrong here? Is the phunnel designed for only smaller coals?

Thanks for your suggestions!

You are using too much heat. Try breaking the 40mm coals in half and use 3 or 4 halves. That should take care of your problem

So what are those 40mm actually designed for...regular bowls??? The hookah lounge I go to uses the 40mm on regular bowls and my hookah there actually tastes good for about 30-45 mins max before I get that burned sensation...

are you saying you use/switch to 3 kings from goldens with the same bowl?
or are we talking new bowl new set of coals?

the comments above are spot on in regards to burned taste...some coals burn hotter than others...in your case / setup Edited by Josh Hamilton

2 full 3king 40mm coals should not burn your bowl, if it is either youre packing your shisha too high so that its burning the foil or youre not letting the coals get hot enough (red all over) the 40mm coals take longer than the smaller ones to get ready so blow on them for a while till theyre red hot.

you can break them in halves and have 4 halves around the bowl as well. i would also suggest once youre used to working with 3king coals to move on to a better, longer lasting quick light.

I've found breaking the 40mm in half and placing the halves on opposite sides works well for most tobacco's.

Some brands seem to need more heat and some less, so basically I've found you just have to experiment with each brand to figure it out.
