The_Caterpiller
H'okay, this just struck me as odd, and I must ask, just for the sake of my catterpillerish curiosity... I was browsing about the net for a new Hookah, as my trust little 21" finally bit the dust in a freak moving accident, and I ran across a couple sites toting what they call "Hookah Pipes." The things do indeed look like hookahs, and they do indeed look like pipes, but still... Anyone have any experience with them? I'm a bit skeptical of them myself, though who knows, they might be the cats pajamas. On another note, midget pygmy mini hookah, the thing was like... eight inches tall, what kind of smoke would such a smurf-sized hookah provide?? yashman19
Care to share some pictures or a site where you saw these hookahs at? Can't read minds over hurr
yashman19
I don't have any experience with the first, but I do have pretty much the exact same hookah as the one pictured second, except with a slightly different stem variation. Here is mine.It definately works damn good. I get good smoke compared to my other big boy hookahs. The only thing that bugs me about it is the slightly tighter draw, which I believe is due to the narrow down-stem. A narrower downstem will let less air pass through, thus giving you a tighter draw. Other than that, it rocks!I didn't order this one online though. I got mine locally from Taqseem's Hookahs, who happened to be based very close to me. I like to see my hookahs in person when I buy, and lucky for me, the owner is a real good guy. If you are interested in picking something up, PM me and I'll get you in contact with him.I would normally just post his email, but I'm not sure it would be appropriate. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask and I'll do my best to answer anything about this hookah.Oh and welcome to the board.
The_Caterpiller
Thank you. While I like to view the hookah before buying it, the particular area I'm in frowns on hookahs (smoking anything other than cigerettes actually) and there are no close shops, the closest being a headshop that sells knockoffs I'd rather avoid, that shop being about 75 miles away. Rather than pay over a hundred dollars for just a hookah, (no hoses, charcoal, shisha, or carrying case/bag) I think I'll just try my luck online. hookahkings seems to be a decent enough site... Enima For Your Lungs
As far as the first one, it is very similar to traditional East Asian styles. Like this antique one: http://www.elitehookah.com/catalog/product...fo.php?cPath=25 &products_id=63 (Warning: This link will take to a retailer's website, please do not click if easily influenced.) It should smoke fine, it's just a little different than our typical North African/Middle Eastern/Mediterranean approach to hookahs.
DizzyGuy
Yeah, I've seen the first before and I've been VERY tempted to try. I just don't want to get it and it doesn't smoke worth crap.
HookahDuck
Hmm, I had one similar to that tiny little contraption. What I really remember is a tight draw and a very *hot* smoke, even when not harsh. Though not a complete waste of ma'assel, I wouldnt replace your main hookah with it.Heres a review of mine: http://hookahforum.com/forum/forum_posts.a...asp?TID=2312&KW =baby+hookah
mushrat
Ok, this may be the former Head in me, but i don't really think the first one is designed for shisha. As for the Antique Indian one, sure that isn't an Opium pipe?
The_Caterpiller
Thanks for the review HD, I'll keep it in mind when buying. I think, afte rconcidering the shape of some opium pipes I've sen, I'm going to try to knock together a pipe of my own, (using lamp pieces I kee paround for my... "other" pipes) I'm concidering a longer stem, with a bore roughly 1/3 t o1/4 the "normal" bore of a big boy. I've got a glass ball big enoug hthat if I clean it nicely, it'll make a decent base/grip (just need to get some metalwork on it to snug a thread). I'll begin work, and share my results on the finished product. With luck, it'll be something odd looking but beauitful in its own way.
thepyrofish
Ok, this may be the former Head in me, but i don't really think the first one is designed for shisha.
Thank god I'm not the only one. It's just a less colourful bubbler. Not that theirs anything wrong with that, but I just can't see myself using it as opposed to a more traditional style of hookah. The Dude Abides
Yeah, I wouldn't suggest shisha in a hand-held pipe that has red hot coals carefully balanced on top of the bowl. But hey, maybe it comes with an oven mitt to prevent coals from rolling off the foil and cauterizing your hand. And as fpr tjat little pygmy hookah, my gf's roommate has one. It does feel like you're sucking through a tiny straw but it gets the job done well enough.
mushrat
Caterpiller: If mopower ever logs back in ask him to show you the one he built..its a thing of beauty. Goldschlager bottle, wooden candlestickes bored out, brake line fittings...cool paint. I told him he should sell the suckers.
Lukasa
That first one looks like its meant for weed, i cant imagine having an enjoyable shisha smoke out of it.
