Silly Questions About A Rescued Mya

Recommended Posts

I recently came into possession of a Mya hookah with a broken acrylic vase (it was a college move-out day orphan). The vase screwed on to the stem, which is about 12 inches tall, not including the downstem. I'm trying to find a new vase, but I don't know enough about hookahs to know what I'm looking for. Do I need to get one of the screw-on bases from Mya? Will the non-threaded vases work with the stem if I get a grommit or something? I've noticed that vases from other retailers are selling for lower prices, but I don't want to compromise my smoking experience. Can anyone give me some advice? I'm sorry if this is a repeat question, I've done a search and didn't find what I'm looking for. I can upload a picture if we need it.

So... you're saying I do need to get a base from the same manufacturer? Mine isn't the mini model... it looks a lot like this one but a bit shorter and gold-colored.

those are the wrong bases.

those are push ins for the smaller acrylics and the screw in base won't work.

Contact Mya and tell them what you have or get

This is the only other acrylic base they have with a screw in top. You can call them and ask which glass screw in ones will work with that model if you want glass instead.

Mush, I might be wrong, but I know my friend has a Mya mini like they're giving away @ H-S, and if you take a screw-in vase, and slip the mya silicon base grommet over the threads, it fits in a non-threaded acrylic bottom. All the screw-in bottoms are the same diameter right?

hmm..an interesting point.

Most likely they are the same diameter. Im thinking about all the screw-ons I used to sell. I might have to go back and see what I have lying around for a quick experiment. :)

This is what I was thinking about. Maybe I'm picky but those mod bases just seem a little ... tacky. Mya sells screw-on glass bases like these that I think should work, but if I'm going the glass route it seems like standard bases offer much more variety.

If its a Mya and the bottom of the stem is threaded, like you have the downstem, then it gets a little wider, then just before you reach where the stem is molded there's threading, then it'll fit on standard Mya threaded bases. You can get acrylic or glass, up to you. If you wish, you can then take a Mya silicone grommet and slip it over the threads, allowing you to use just about any vase they make for large hookahs.

Non-threaded, requires a base grommet

And your grommet, should you decide to go that route:

I just linked Southsmoke because their vases are cheaper than anywhere else I've found.

This is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks a lot! I ordered the grommet and a simple glass base. I'll upload a pic when everything comes in and she's back to her former glory.
