Moroccan Hookah

So my Girlfriend is heading out to Spain next week for 10 days and it happens that she is going to be going to Morocco for one of the days she is there. I asked her to try and find me a sweet hookah or maybe some local sheesha if she could. However Im not completely sure what she should be looking for. Is Morocco a good place to score a quality but cheap hookah or any good tobacco? Any help you guys could provide would be greatly appreciated!

Nothing against Morocco or Morrocans, but ive seen a lot of people come back with pipes from there and they have all been crap and they got ripped off in the process. And I mean I've seen this happen a LOT.

Don't expect a lot from the pipes your GF is liable to find.

What mush said. It is hard to believe (or maybe not), but the Moroccan market is full of Chinese hookahs.

i think this is the case with the whole hookah market in general around the world. it is very unfortunate.

Very true. I recently went to a party and heard the person throwing it had a badass hookah, naturally I was stoked to check it out. I showed up and it was a two hose Mya knock off. I laughed and pulled out my KM.

Go to Turkey to get a pretty pipe. You'll just need a male-female bowl adapter.

U remember a guy coming into the bar talking about this cool hookah he got in Israel. The pointed to a fancy Mya I was selling and said it looked just like that one. Poor schmuck went all the way to Israel and bought a Mya.

FWIW, I think Myas are a lot cheaper in the Middle East....just like everything else

I'll have to get a turkish hookah I guess. I have a syrian one I got as my first hookah that was actually mailed out of Lebanon. Brass stem, screws together at several points, male bowl. It was a 4 hose with crappy outo-seal system I ended up drilling out one of the 3 extra ports and used the remaining 2 as dual purge valves.

I cracked the base on it a while back and haven't been able to find a suitable replacement but I still love that hookah.

They are headquartered in Sterling, Virginia actually. The 2 brothers that run the business live and work there. I believe their father started the business originally. And yes, apparently you can find em just about anyplace.

The quality of many Moroccan crafts has gone down. Much of the stuff is made in China now. Babouches made today suck, lanterns are made in china,djellabas come apart at the seams. You have to go search the souks to find quality and stay away from the tourist shops

I´m actually currently in spain. my buddy and i grabbed a cheap but good egyptian rig for 15 euros including a 250g of nakhla and a roll of coals. it depends on where you go and if you know how to bargain. speaking arabic helps significantly as all of the people who own the shops that sell those things are moroccan or algerian.

i have seen some quality syrian rigs and something that looked like a temsaah while i was here, but i wasn´t too interested in paying like 40 euros and lugging that thing to every hostal and buddy´s relative´s house while we were here.

she just has to KNOW what to look for - which means experience. i wouldn´t advise just running around telling her to grab something and hope that it´s good - because it likely won´t be.

i´ll keep you updated when i get back from españa!
