Iphone 4

I did successfully preorder an iPhone 4, but the system wouldn't let me have a different shipping address from my billing address. That sucks because I'm in Iraq and my billing address is in Pennsylvania. WTF?!?

So, I called and asked them to change the shipping address, but they said they couldn't. I told them to cancel the order. Then, I tried to order it from the Apple store,....same deal.

Now I see that any pre-orders (after Tuesday) have an estimated ship date of July 14th. I'm heading home the following week, so there's no way I'd get it in time.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I'll be able to get one in store by the time I get home (end of July).

BTW, I have a 64g 3G iPad and L-O-V-E I-T!!!!!

Damn, you were lucky to have gotten a preorder in! I wouldn't have cancelled... I could not ONCE complete a preorder. FINALLY it offered me the reservation deal so I took it. Kept trying to order, but finally gave up... By end of July you shouldn't have a problem getting one. Things should calm down by then...

I've never played with an iPad. I suspect I will this Thursday on the 24th when I go to pickup my iPhone.

Looks pretty awesome and I wouldn't mind having one, but I don't want AT&T. For now I'm waiting for some sweet (hopefully) Android phones coming out in the next few months for Verizon. Congrats though Chris, I'm pretty jealous. Why didn't you go for the 32gb though?

It was a gamble. They would've sent it to my home in Philly. The Post Office would've intercepted it and sent it to my folks down in Florida (my mail is forwarded there). After a week in the USPS pipeline, my folks would have to mail it to me in Iraq, which means it then has to go into the APO system which could take at least two weeks to get out here. All of that hinges on if they shipped on June 24th like they originally promised. Now it seems that even that date is in question.

I just checked. There's an AT&T store 10 minutes from my house and an Apple Store in King of Prussia (45 minutes). I'm hoping that by the time I'm back in the states that I'll be able to get one in store.

The iPad is awesome! I'm taking it on my future trips and leaving the laptop at home.

Apple... the Ed Hardy of the Computer World....

... I know it's not a fair comparison...but doesn't it sound right?

I will have to switch off AT&T when I decide to get a smart phone... @#$)$#@ NEW DATA TIER PLAN !#@$@#$
I don't think that's fair at all. I've been quite satisfied with my Macbook Pro, and it hasn't failed me yet, whereas all my PC laptops have... My gf is more than happy with her iPhone 3GS, never failed on her, whereas all her other phones have... I'm not a fanboy by any means. I've just been satisfied with their products so far, so it keeps me interested in what they have to offer. Different strokes for different folks, I suppose. And yes, AT&T's data plan is total fail. I hate it with a passion. I'm fed up with AT&T. The preorder messups was all their fault, not Apple's.
Chris, I will tell you this.

Apple makes a good product. Here's why:
Their software is specifically designed on Thier Hardware. Read the EULA Putting a Mac OS on anything other than Mac hardware...legal action. I have had two fellow tech buddies I know go to Mac Tech work because with the prices of parts they can charge double labor and get away with it.

It's like Hybrid Cars... Great Concept... only few people are authorized to work on them...and when something major happens like needing to replace the battery...so good bye to your kids college fund. (Pretty sure they stole their business plan from Apple)

As for the iPhone it follows the same rules. To prevent crashing only one app can be active. Unlike other smart phones like Droid. (both OS's built of the a Linux Kernel by the way)

I have had 3 iPods... all lock up on my constantly for no reason ... No Hard Line Power Button... Just have to wait for the battery to die.

My brother has had is iPhone replace twice because of hardware malfunction.

Side Note* My personal Dell PC I have had at home for 5-6 years now works amazing. Never had a single hardware issue, never a software issue. Dual Core 2GB of RAM and I run CS3 Creative Suite without any issues to boot. "Knock on Wood"

It's called computers... all have issues in every stream. Everything has problems and fans.

F16- Yeah man, I'd just wait to pick one up from a store.

Stuie- We're just gonna have to agree to disagree. Whereas PC has failed me and Mac hasn't, it's the total opposite for you. Nothing wrong with that. Like I said, different strokes. I'm not a hardcore gamer or PC builder, and I like how the Mac runs, so it's for me. Not the case for everyone. That's what's great about America- you can choose what you want. I wouldn't have my Macbook Pro right now if it wasn't for needing it for school because of Final Cut Pro. But now that I have it I love it. I was totally against getting it at first. As for your iPods locking up on you, my 30GB iPod Video did that one time when I left it in my car in the summer heat for a whole day... Easy fix. No need to wait for the battery to die. I don't think I'd ever use more than 16GB (14GB really), so don't see the need in shelling out the extra $100.

Chris - Yes we disagree. That's fine brother.

Mac is better for Video Editing.

Mac makes a good product I am not denying that.

But Mac is to me as this example:

KM makes an amazing line of hookahs, the finally perfect the welds to almost unnoticeable. And because they know they have a good product, A huge fan base, and long standing reputation they start Charging $450 per hookah. You are telling me there wouldn't be an all out bitch session on every forum in the world. But after that first bit of shock people start paying for it anyways. Just look at Gas Prices, they go up, we bitch, we buy. Essentially that is what Mac has done, they know they can charge more, not because it's worth it but because they can. Windows is so borderline on this, it's not going to take much to make me switch to Ubuntu.

For the price of a mac desktop - I could make a linux/windows 7 based box for something that is 10X better.

Not to mention their mac mini they just refreshed - still using 4+ year ago processors..
Where the hell are the i3,i5, and i7 cores apple?

For 700 dollars could build something with more video power, more processing power, more ram, and more hard drive space..
I realize they have to make a profit. - But for the price of their oldish technology, they are ripping people off.

Oh yeah, I totally agree that Apple way overprices their products. No doubt about it. My Macbook Pro was way too much. I really wish I didn't have to buy it. But that's what my program uses so I had to get it to keep up as I don't have time to use the very few Macs on campus that have very limited hours. Now I can edit at work! Haha. When I got the Mac I was instantly impressed though. I can't play my old PC games on it (I only have really old ones that are my favs from the 90s), but that's a quick fix just by getting Parallels or VMWare Fusion. Only reason I haven't yet is I haven't gotten the itch to play the games. I'm more concerned with playing my PS3. But it's nice to know I can play the games if I ever want to- or I could just break out my gf's Sony Vaio laptop and play them on it. I understand for computer programmers and guys that like to customize PCs need PC. Mac is definitely NOT for that crowd. But for video editing and for graphic design (my school uses Macs for the graphic design programs too) or for just people who want to surf the net and do normal everyday things, Macs are good (if you have the cashola for it).

So... I guess we are agreeing? Sounds like we're agreeing more than disagreeing.

You are totally right about the Mac Mini... It looks hella cool and is compact, but is a total ripoff for what you're getting. Especially considering you still have to get a screen, mouse, and keyboard!

I think the one thing that impresses me the most about the Mac since I switched over from PC is how lightning fast it is... My PC Sony Vaio laptop that I got in 2007 took like 3-5 minutes to start up and have the desktop fully loaded before you could click anything and have it open relatively quickly. On my Macbook Pro within 20 seconds the computer is on and ready for me to click whatever and it'll pop open in no time. No waiting. No little hourglass. Granted I do get the spinning beachball from time to time, but that's only when I've got a LOT of stuff running at the same time or trying to download a bunch of stuff and/or be backing up using Time Machine all at the same time. As long as I don't have like ten things running I'm fine. With PC I could only run a couple things at a time or else I'd be bogged down like crazy. I don't know... Mac interface and speed just seems hella quicker for me, and I like that.

Based on whats in the thing - I could build it in a normal sized case for approximately 400$. Apple builds it even cheaper due to their bulk prices.
I'd say anywhere their building cost is anywhere from 250-270$. People are paying about 50% for looks. Honestly.

It'll train me and make my sessions better!!!

NE Philly.

***************************

As to the whole Apple sucks/rules debate, I don't give a shit what anyone else thinks.

It's my money I'm spending and I'll spend it on what I want.

I'm tired of buying relatively inexpensive junk (Dell, Gateway, HP, Sony, etc). I'd rather shell out a little extra if it means I'm going to have 100% satisfaction.

The day I got my Macbook Pro was the day I said to hell with suffering in silence.

It's not about the brand name for me, it's about the quality.
