xriotx13x
I have recently become a hookah fan but I have only gone to hookah lounges. Well I have invested in my own small hookah. If i could get some suggestions on the best brands for coals and shisha that would be great. (Preferably fruit flavors like peach for shisha) Help would be great! Thanks! Hassouni
I prefer either natural wood coals or Coconaras, a lot of people here like CH too. I HATE instant lights, and Nour coals ash like a bastard. As for tobacco, I like Al-Fakher, Nakhla, and Tangiers...Nakhla Peach is fantastic, and I've heard good things about Tangiers Juicy Peach too...In my opinion these three brands are the most reliable...others are either crappy or too expensive (Tangiers is already pushing it for me). insidius
I just started using coconaras, best coals I've used so far. I was using Diamante natural coals prior to this. Coconaras burn longer and ash much less. I love them. They just take a bit longer to light.
xriotx13x
Thanks! Do you guys have any suggestions for herbal shisha? Is herbal close to the same as regular just tobacco less?
mustafabey
I got a free box of Soex wildberry with something i bought on eBAy. Simply put herbal shisha is to the real stuff, like O'Douls nonalcoholic beer is to say Pilsner Urquell
Hassouni
Herbal is supposed to be mostly awful. I think Stuie has tried a few he likes. Apparently the tea-based ones are said to be OK. SOEX is definitely NOT ok...
antouwan
tobacco brands: al fakher, nakhla, and tangiers in that order. star buzz makes a very enjoyable white peach as well. coals: chron hookah naturals and coconaras - in that order. that's my call but it's a preferance thing. IMO chron hookah instants are the only usable ones on the market. i've been in spain and am using some SHITTY instants because that's all that's available and it is VERY noticeable. damn do i miss my KM, narb and phunnels...BUT the baccy is affordable. it's 5 euros for a 250g of nakhla... Venger
For price, flavor and smoke. Nakhla mizo is your very best bet. So far I have tried 2 of the mizo line flavors, apple and peach. Sweet and tasty. coals I have only used QL coals and both have no taste if fully lit. CH and 3 king. Ray
thecoalition
do not use quick lighting coals. just go straight with coco nara coals. for a good starter shisha i always recommend al fahker
kyleSD
I think one of the best things you can do as a new hookah smoker is to try basic flavors I'm glad I started that way. Like the previous entries said Al-Fakher is great, easy to pack and learn with. Coals I'd say coconaras or golden canaries
Josh Hamilton
I think Nakhla (mizo even better)/ Al Fak and starbuzz coz thats what my local halal shops sell... flavor is another matter...but MINT is a basic stash you can mix it with other fruity flavas (just playing with new things here
mtizzle
While Hookah Hookah really misses on some of their flavors, I think their one shots are great. They're cheaper than a 50g, so if you hate the flavor, you didn't waste money, and you don't have a ton of tobacco that you'll never smoke laying around. (happened to me with HH cherry...) While they have some really terrible flavors, such as cherry, they have some really good flavors, too, like hazelnut and spiced rum, and I just got through smoking guava, which I liked a lot. I think it's a good middle of the road tobacco - nothing more, and nothing less. I also think that the 'shooters' are a great idea, because if you don't like the flavor of the tobacco, you're only out a dollar and a half as opposed to 4+ dollars for a 50g. Also, by using the shooters, you can form an opinion on a flavor, and then branch out from there. For example, if you buy a shooter of HH's double apple and enjoy it, you can then buy that flavor from a premium company knowing that you're going to enjoy it much more. And yes, I've smoked Starbuzz and AF. I've got a 250 of SB's sweet apple that I'm working on, and various 50's of AF. I enjoy some of the HH flavors as much as I like the SB and AF flavors that I have. Why spend more than twice the price of the shooters to determine if you like the flavor or not? Also, it all boils down to opinion. I've read reviews of people who love HH cherry, but I can't stand it. I'd rather lick ass. Likewise, as I stated earlier, I just finished smoking HH's guava, which I bought a shooter of, and I enjoyed it. Now I know that I like the guava flavor, and I'm going to start looking for other guava flavors from different companies. It really is just an alternative way to find good tobacco, I guess, but it's working for me.

Most of the ones I've tried taste like ass, but I will say that some are okay at best. My main problem with them is their cuts of tobacco and what flavorings they use. I'm by no means an expert on how tobacco is manufactured, but I can safely say that I definitely notice the quality difference in the smoke that is produced and how quickly the tobacco burns. The flavor may smell decent, but in my opinion, by the time you smoke it, the smoke has a chemical taste to it. I save my HH supply for when I run out of other brands simply because I've found it to be the lowest quality of any brand that I've smoked. I save my HH supply for when I run out of other brands simply because I've found it to be the lowest quality of any brand that I've smoked. [/quote] I agree that the taste can get a bit chemicaly. I half-way uncover my shooters for sometimes as much as a day before I smoke them, and that seems to cut back a bit on the chemical taste. I don't know how, but it does. Like I said earlier, the good HH tobacco I have tried is mediocre at best, but I feel that the shooters are simply a good way to try different flavors. The only HH I regularly smoke is Hazelnut because it actually is really good. In the end, life's too short to smoke something shitty, so in reality, I'd buy some pretty good stuff to start off with like some of the other people have suggested (Tangiers, Romman, SB, etc.), but for flavors that you're not too sure about, I'd just buy a shooter of the HH stuff. For example, I bought a shooter of guava because I'd never had it before and didn't know what it tasted like. The HH version was good, so I now know I won't be wasting my money when I buy a premium guava.
A13lackFish
NaK Mizo Gives the most bang for your buck Starbuzz or Social Smoke is considered the better brands of shisha, in terms of flavor and how smooth they smoke. They also tend to be a more fine cut product. But at a $20-$25 tag Best coals wise, i still favor Hookah Johns hookah coals, (which i cant actually name cause of their name being an apparent NHT reference), but they are ashy Kings coals are the easiest to find and most standard quicklights, cheap pricetag and an overall classic I cant claim anything on coals these are merely what i use and recommend cause i dont like lighting coals over stoves etc.
king_lunchb0x
i would say nakhla is a good brand to start with very affordable and have alot of flavors that dont taste to sweet al fahker is good too, its super easy to get good *smoke* from AF but if you havent already you MUST get a wide washable hose (narbish v4 is out now!!!) and tangiers phunnel to get a really great smoking experience Edited June 23, 2010 by king_lunchb0x
Caila
Coals - i would go with 3 Kings for Quicklights and CocoNara for Naturals Shisha - Nakhla!
