bsamaroo
Whats up everybody, just received my KM Amer from hookahjohn, I'm a long time smoker but never had a high quality argili. Couple of quick questions for you experienced people: 1) How high should my water level be? http://hookahjohn.com/images/144.jpg Should it be somewhere around the double gold rings? Or higher than that? 2) I'm not sure if the purge valve with the ball bearing is working properly...when I have it fully closed and I blow through the hose (with water in the base) a little bit of air still comes through there. Is this okay? 3) How often should I open up the valve to blow out harsh smoke? 4) This is my first time using CH hookah coals, I have a small tangiers phunnel bowl. Would you recommend using 3 or 4 of those coals with this bowl? Thanks! -Ben
kyleSD
just submerge the downstem like an inch and a half in water for the water level, as for the valve, it works just like any other valve. it's different cause its a china hat valve i have the same on my km chiller. it doesn't sound like its working but it is just leave it closed. You don't need to unscrew it or anything to clear. And with the small funnel i would go for 3 coals, when i use cocos which are similar i use three. hope this helped

It depends on what you like....1-2 inches above the bottom of the downstem seems to be the consensus. i actually fill the vase as full as i can get it, without the water bubbling into the hose port... 2. That's normal. You should be able to blow and "lift" the ball bearing off the hole. Now, if you inhale and air is going through the purge...you've got a problem... 3. You DON'T open the valve to purge the smoke. You just blow into the hose. The air pushes the ball bearing off the hole and the smoke escapes. 4. Add as much coal as your tobacco takes without getting harsh...depending on the tobacco, 2-3 seems to be normal... bsamaroo
Thanks for the quick responses guys...I smoked it last night and it was great...really great experience. How often would you guys recommend cleaning the base and the stem? Would you recommend just wetting the cleaning brushes with water or do you use some kind of soap? Also, is there any way to wash the inside of the hose? Thanks again, -Ben

If your hose is washable you can wash it with lemon juice or vinegar. But if it isn't washable it'll rust if you try to wash it.

no longer welcome
i wish i could say i wash it out after every session, but i def wash it out before each session, you must do this, and it's ok to let it slide once in awhile but make it a habit to scrub it out every time. 404notfound
I tend to scrub the inside of mine with a long brush from HJ about once a week (I just use water though not soap), and change the water between sessions. Every month I'll polish my Pharonie but I don't really bother as much with the Amer since they don't seem so get dirty as easily.
