Old Tangiers Small Vs New Tangiers Small Phunell

Recommended Posts

I've just been reading a post created by another member regarding the new tangiers small phunnel
I have used the old small which my friend has and have to say its the best pot I've ever used
I have just ordered a small phunnel from hookah john (new design) expecting them to be more or less identical.

Has anybody else had the chance to use? Can anyone comment on any differences?

I'm really hoping there isn't a noticable difference. its cost a lot of money to have one posted to the uk!

Thanks in advance

If you're thinking of the old tall tower like ones, there is a slight difference. I think the new ones have a smaller bowl and are def shorter... I miss the old phunnels...

my buddy dereksd just traded for a old small phunnel and it looks like a medium, its bigger than the newer smalls, at least it seems to me. Also the look of it is different. where the bowl flares down into the straighter part of the bowl is more fluid in the new ones whereas the older one seem to have a jointed look to them, they also seem more rough-finished where the newer ones seem more glazed. both are very cool but i think economic wise the newer smalls will save you some shisha, unless youre looking to go on a bender and smoke for hours in which case who isn't :)

could be term for bowl?

yeh we do use that term for a hookah bowl, infact in my first ever post, I used that term but was politely asked to not use it again and my posts were edited.

So i guess ukhookah, try to avoid that word, just use the word bowl. I think the aim is remove ANY referece to illegal subtances to prevent misinformation about hookah smoking and stop people searching those terms and the word "hookah" and be directed to this forum.

In my experience, and from others' posts I've seen here on the forum, the older small phunnels are definitely smaller than the new smalls. You'll often see the new smalls are said to be "more like a medium." This, in essence, defeats the whole purpose of it being a small. I want my bowl as small as possible to save tobacco, but I do want it to smoke good. My Tang Mini phunnel serves me in this way perfectly. Now I do not know for sure, but my guess is Eric is making them bigger so that they'll smoke better (he'll tell you the bigger the phunnel the better the smoke). Maybe he'll login sometime soon and see this thread and confirm this. But one thing I know for sure... The new ones are definitely bigger than the old ones.

Green is from the newest batch of smalls that HJ has.
Black is the older small I bought from HC.
Blue is a small I bought from HC a month or two ago.

Man, I should have asked hookahjohn to send me one of the smaller looking phunnels from his tangier batch.
That new small don't really look like a small! Damn

From what I was told, all of them are pretty big.

I'm glad you people are noticing this. The first time I got one of the new ones in to the lounge I thought it must've been some sort of mistake. The new small was much bigger yet more squat than the old. I called Eric about it and got the 411 from him. Here's what he told me.

There are essentially two styles of Tangiers Phunnel - Tower and Grip. The Towers are the ones we know and love. They the ones that are smooth, slender, and sweeping. Those are like the blue and black ones mitchard has pictures of. Grip bowls are the new ones. they are fatter with knobs at the base of the bowl portion as well as at the base of the neck - like mitch's green one. They definitely hold more shisha - I'd say as much as 10-15g more. They're deeper and more straight up and down.

I don't like the new bowls. I foresee the value of the old "Tower" bowls to go up in the near future as more and more people come to this same realization. The feedback at the lounge has not been too great either. I'm sure part of it is based on the fact that people have difficulty with change in general, but I think there's more to it. They just don't look as good, IMO. The towers were sleek, the grips are squat. The towers were graceful, the grips are clunky. Of course looks aren't everything, but they're a lot to lots of people.

Don't get me wrong, the grip bowls smoke just as well as the towers. But the towers are still my favorite.

I much prefer the old, simply cos I got used to the amout of shisha used. I don't understand why erric had to change the size of the bowl. Its a bit decieving when you buy from these places and they don't inform u that the new small shall require more shisha. I probably still would have purchased this but honestly I am really dissapoibted with the size. Its cost me lot of money for a product that I'm let down by.

On the plus side, it still smokes great but uses a fair amount of extra shisha.

You have to remember that these are handmade. I've seen smalls the size of my old mini, and I've seen some that are almost as big as my medium. If you want a smaller one, ask the retailer you are buying from to pick out one of the smaller ones.

i have some grips that are smaller than some towers and vice versa....in fact, i have a grip that is a bit smaller than my mini phunnel....

sooooo, yeah...even if the general consensus is that grips hold more shisha...there are still some that are quite small...

p.s. aesthetically.....grips > towers
