Diffuser Project

Recommended Posts

In a recent thread, i have no idea which one, i discovered the Diffuser, supposedly to reduce noise, filter smoke better, make a better draw, and further cool smoke. I did a serach and found that there have been many threads on making your own diffuser. I decided i would do the same, but try to make it unique. So i thought.....and thought.....and then i realized, the EASIEST, compatible with any hookah idea. Basically take anything you want your diffuser to take the shape of, even your stem, which is what i did, and another thing of a funny shape from who knows what, anyway take your object, and take a piece of plastic wrap and put it ON the object, not around, or wrap it, just on it and twice as long as the length you want for the diffuser (if ur using a pen cap or somthing similar, a good rule of thumb, make it go past the open end of the cap, dont wrap it around or close it, just leave it there) and aply epoxy, or gorrila glue (which i think is made out of natural stuff, so preferably that) or anything else with similar effects, and coat your plastic wraped object in it, and let it dry, now once its dry, take the plastic wrap of of your object, you may or may not be ably to remove the plastic from the glue itself, it doesnt matter, now poke any assortment of any number of holes, that u wish, with any instrument that tickles your fancy, and congratulations, you have a diffuser in any shape you want, and can definatly fit your hookahwill report later on how it works,, i have no shisha right now so ill just test with plain water, and see how the draw is, i may get pictures laterBTW if you think the layer of epoxy/gorrilaglue/anysuperglue will be to thin, just apply more layers till you are content

the easiest way i found was a thimble. i just took a thimble and drilled about 10-12, i think they were 1/16 inch, holes.
and i took a bowl grommet (or a hose grommet will work also, depending on stem size) shoved the thimble inside the wider end of the grommet and slid the narrower end over the stem and voila!! ill post up pictures asap

What he's saying to do is like making a fibreglass mould, r paper mache.  Put a layer of saran wrap over the und of your stem, and put gorilla glue (what the hell is this anyway?) on it and let it dry, do layers until it is thick enough and when you pull it off you will have a perfectly moulded tube to make a diffuser from.  I just used a penlid, but this would probably work too.

I just tried it out, works amazing. I always got guiness on hand.
Anyhow I got it on my Mya right now and it makes the smoke very smooth
to pull, no longer the jack hammer effect of large bubbles when you
breath it. I used the Mya needle and I heated it with a small torch to
make the distribution holes. I dont have a webcam to show. Fit is
excellent though cause I drilled the hole to close size and then used
the blowtorch to soften the edges for the best fit.

I can really see why people want difusers now.

I love my diffuser
Basically you can make one out of anything. I have found that 5-7 semi
large holes works better then many small holes. I just found this piece
of metal laying around so I took my dremel to it.
Twang wouldnt it have just been easier to drill holes
into your down pipe and block the end instead of putting that on it?
I did not want to have to raise the water level in my base anymore. And
I did not want to do anything permanent to my hookah. All I did to that
metal piece is grind the inside out a little bit to make it fit over my
tube. The holes were already there.

I understand now...Actually, that sounds like a great idea...all of
them. I used a 1/2 inch piece of clear plumbing pipe, put a heated
needle through it a couple (like 12) times, then simply slid it onto
the end of my stem. It fits perfectly. I'm thinking I'll glue a
chapstick chap on the end to finish it.

so far this would have to be the simplest and most inexpensive...I just took one of the hose tips that came with my hookah, and put some holes in it with my leatherman.....then shoved it up there. It seems to be working as the diffusers are described (quiter, "fizzier" sound, tinier bubbles) and the whole thing took me 2 minutes.
