Buford
Here's how I handle Tangiers tobacco:I put it in a small plastic tub like Gladware for storage. I periodically shake the container to mix it up with the syrup that collects at the bottom, but not right before I'm going to smoke it. When I'm going to smoke it, I just use the drier layer right on top of the tub. For all Tangiers except mint I use the big Tangiers bowl (I've found mint to be better out of a stock MYA QT bowl), and I layer it in the bowl until it's poking a little over the top. This way when you add the foil it is touching, which aids in heat transfer. I punch a fair number of holes with a pushpin, usually around 30 or so. As far as coals go, I saw a Nour finger into thirds and use two of those thirds on the bowl at once, starting far apart at the edges. As the coals burn down I ash them and move them towards the center or the edges that have not been touched. This usually works pretty well. You can get one hell of a smoke out of Kashmir peach doing it that way.
Alqoshnia
How long are the Nour fingers when you break them into thirds, because they are about 8"-10" long right out of the bag. Also how long does it take to actually get it going with the Tangiers bowl. I get faint smoke right away and a minute later I get harshness like smoking a cigarette. Then after 5-10 minutes it becomes more smooth and the smoke is nice and thick, but the flavor is never there. Ive tried Strawberry, Watermelon, Red Apple, and Blue Bubble Gum and they aallll have that same little sweet taste, but nothing distinct. If I didnt look at the bags when I packed a bowl, I would never guess what flavor it was. Im using a medium Tangiers bowl, Ive acclimated for at least 2-3 days, I used less coals than I would usually use, I packed the m'assel just as everyone suggested, used over 7-8 different hole patterns. Its just not happenin for me too well.
gunsboy
I have tried the red tea ... I put the shisha in one of those air pressure containers, I left it open for like 3-4 hours. Then I closed it and next day I smoked a bowl. There was no taste in the begining - I could still feel a hint of the anis of the AF double apple that might have been stuck on the hose. After like 10 minutes it could taste the tea flavor I was wondering if I could mix it with mint to get a mint tea taste?! Tonight I will try the Kashmir Peach for the first time. Also, I hate the 3 King coals they destroy my shisha and lungs, Nour fingers are very good with no after taste.
Buford
I'd estimate the Nour pieces I use to usually be around 2" or a tad longer. It takes probably 5 or 6 puffs to get it going good in the Tangiers bowl.
TJ Perry
Well so far I've tried everything mentioned in here to no avail. I'm just going to wait for tangiers to ship out the bowl and hope for the best. I even made myself a little diffuser out of clear rubber hose. imonlyapuppet
I was going to buy some Tangier's shisha today because I'd heard so much about it, but now I'm kind of second guessing myself. I've heard so many great things about it, but now with this, and the whole "your bowl is not tangiers compatible" thing, I'm not sure. And even Tangiers himself doesn't know what makes a bowl compatible. No sense in spending money on shisha if I might not be able to smoke it. Side note: Is hookahcompany.com the only place to buy tangiers tobacco? I want to try some, but I'd also like to buy a MYA Washable hose (can someone confirm that all MYA hoses are washable?), so I'm looking for a respectable site that sells both tangiers and mya hoses - is hookahcompany my best choice? RoDenT
Hookahcompany sells both MYA hoses, which are washable and tangiers. I got my MYA hose from them, works great and is washable.
Sonthert
I'm not sure. This is what I do know: About four people have contacted me and told me that after following the directions and tips on the forum, they still couldn't get my tobacco to smoke well. This isn't that many since hundreds of people smoke my tobacco. Of the four, one found success by using one of my bowls. One did not One never worked it out and I've lost touch with him. One is still in the process of working it out. So, two possibilities, occur to me: 1. The different thermal properties of the clay would affect how the tobacco smokes. 2. There is a very simple and basic thing that is being done wrong...so obvious, I can't see it. I like the first reason because it doesn't blame anyone, just a technical problem...I'd rather not have the first thing on my mind being "The guy who bought it screwed up." The first reason doesn't seem correct since it doesn't seem to solve every condition. The second reason, unfortunately, may be true. People pack their bowls differently and learned differently...often from people who didn't know how to do it right in the first place. I would rather float the first idea around and see if a couple people with some trouble find its solved by a different head. If statistics follow in this case, however, puppet, you have a 99+% chance of having no trouble and enjoying it completely.
