In Need Of Some Quick Help

Recommended Posts

So, interesting situation, but I recently was lent a hookah by my friend. He has 4 of them, so letting me try out this one was no big deal to him.
Here's where I need some help. This think looks exactly like a Mya QT and has a pretty cool rainbow-painted base to it. My concern is if it is a REAL Mya QT or if there are some cheap knock-offs out there. He bought it a few years ago from this store locally called "CD Connection" for like 35 bucks. The hose that came with it doesn't have the common "mya" prints all over it, but then again it is just a hose and the hookah is a few years old, so I dunno how long the "mya" print has been on the hoses. So the concern is if it is real. Are there cheap knock-offs of this hookah out there?

He barely ever used it, so he is gonna sell it to me if I want it for like 20 or 30 bucks cause it is practically new. I'm gonna see how it smokes with my nammor hose tomorrow. I am excited for a potentially good deal, but I am skeptical of if it is the real thing or not. Is there any way I can tell if it is a Mya or not (like looking for a logo or distinctive feature)? I don't have a camera available right now, but I can probably post some pictures tomorrow during the day if you guys need it or something.

Thanks guys, much appreciated

I'll be taking some tomorrow then. the only noticeable difference i could find on the hookah I have in my possession and all the sample pictures on the websites is that the cover of the purge valve looks slightly different

Another update on it, the small part of the stem that goes into the water in the base does not unscrew, and the whole stem screws into the base, as opposed to just a rubber grommet that you can just pull out. I don't really know if that is even standard for these or not.

No engravings, which is disappointing. wasn't sure if there are knock-off's or not, but I guess there are.
correction to a previous post, the small part of the stem does unscrew, it was just a little hard to get going.
Has Mya been engraving them since they started selling these? I only ask because this thing is probably a good 2 or 3 years old

doesn't sound real. i wouldn't say that "MYA" in engraved so much as laser-etched, but yes, it will be on the tray and on the stem, usually on one side between the hose port and the purge. i believe it should also say MYA on the underside of the base - but those can always be replaced and the stem to be good is what you really want. and yes, MYA has been doing that for a while. i bought one about 4 or 5 years ago and it had that.

for something used that isn't a mya, 20 is too much. it's probably anodized aluminum and will crap out on you anyway.

Yeah, good call.
Thanks for the help guys!
I haven't smoked it yet since I spent all day in Miami helping a family friend move to an apartment, so I am just beat.
