Kanara Natural Coconut Coals?

Recommended Posts

I know these guys were trying to spam the forum about half a year ago, and for some reason I thought of them today. They signed up as a member on here named Kanara, and went on a spamming spree about their Kanara coals, saying they were just as good as Coconaras. I'm just wondering... Has anyone ever tried these? I mainly don't want to order any for the fact they spammed the forum, but it's a pretty damn good price if they really are just as good as CCNs.

I miss my CCNs, bad. I know, I know, I need to order some, money's tight... But if these are just as good, why not save some money.

Do they sell it in any packages smaller than 108? I'd be interested in trying too, but I don't want to get stuck with 106 crappy coals.

Yes, they have a 20ct. box as well.

Be my test bunny!

Really I should just order a 20ct. box myself...

Did a quick Google search of "Kanara coal review" and came across a thread in a different hookah forum that I won't mention due to forum rules... You can easily find it yourself by doing the same search though; it was the first result (and only relevant one I found so far).

Long story short, people were wondering if they were made by Coconara but just a cheaper branding, perhaps to get rid of slightly inferior coals, to sell more by selling at different price points (like Dole bananas vs "store brand" bananas - some people will still go for name brand). From the thread:

"Well I happen to know for a fact that they are in no way affiliated. They are a copy and nothing like coconara. I have smoked them side by side and furthermore found the manufacturer of Kanara and they are in different parts of Indonesia and also I have gone as far as looking into the companies and there is not even one person with a similar name listed in any capacity with both companies. The Kanara is similar shape and size but ash much more and are not the same coal at all but not a bad coal and imo better than some other coals costing much more like the AF someone mentioned. There are other very popular coals that are sold that a lot of forum members use that ash more than these do and have more odor and taste then them too. Kanara also goes by the name Cocoshisha which is the same coal as Kanara. you can look up the corporations and you would see no affiliation. Now as far as the tips they are also a copy but those I would use and buy for 1/4 the price." Edited by jorlyfish

I'm going to pay a few bills and take a look at my finances and see if I have enough to order a couple boxes. I know $2-3 doesn't sound like much, but here the past couple times my bank's been down to just a few dollars after bills.

People used to do this stuff when I was buying and selling knives and swords on ebay 8 years ago..price low..then bam super high shipping to make up for the good price. I would have thought they would have quit this by now.

Ok so I checked for me here in Indiana from New York out of curiousity. 1 box of 108 = $7.50 shipping to Indiana $11 for 2 boxes, plus they cost $7.95 a box for the coals themselves. Hookahset has cocos for 9.99 for a 108 box. Their shipping usually runs around 10 bucks UPS. and only goes up like maybe a dollar per 108 box of coals. Just running some numbers by you guys.

Avoid these, they suck a fat one. They smell TERRIBLE while lighting, slight taste, don't last as long as coco's.

The price is the only reason I tried them out.
This is what I was waiting for, someone who has actually tried them. Thanks Tom. I'll be steering clear.

 • 7 months later...
just picked up a box of these for 5.99 for 108 pieces, at the local place I get hookah supplies, and to my suprise, they are quite good from the 3 i've had so far. I've been using these horrible Starlight Coconut 25mm ones they had at the shop last time, and they are double the size of normal square charcoals and aren't very dense at all, they constantly break apart like cheap coals. However, these Kanara's are really dense, stay fully lit no problem, and lasted longer than I wanted to smoke and I smoked for like an hour plus. I started out with 2 but i'm using quite the small phunnel and just used two for 45 mins and was gettting good clouds all the time. It was nakla pistacho packed really tightly, so overall i'm so much happier with these coals than my other ones.

If they are a knock off coconara's that's a bummer, but they still are pretty good. I've never used the coconara's so i cant compare, but I've used all kinds of other charcoals over the years and so far these are pretty nice!

And I didn't notice any abnormal taste or smell while lighting or smoking.

I've been using these coals for the past week. they're definitely good coals, I think much better than the starlight coconut coals but not as good as CCN's. they're about the same size as CCN flats, and last about the same time, maybe a bit shorter.

From what I've experienced, they burn just a tad bit cooler than CCN's, i have to use the windcover much earlier during my session.

Theres little to no taste. I don't notice much of a difference from CCN's and the kanara coals.

Lighting them on my hotplate is bit faster than with the CCN's. Didn't officially time anything but it seems shorter than the CCN's. however, while lighting the kanara's, they smell absolutely horrible. These coals give off way more fumes while lighting than the CCN's. If you watch the coals while they're being lit, you can see wisp of smoke coming off them. I suggest you light them by a window or outdoors..

Ashing these coals is probably my biggest problem with them. They ash like crazy. And the ash doesn't come off in layers like CCN's, it comes off as a fine dust/sand. When the coals need to be ashed and you pull from the hookah, the ash ends up falling off the coal and onto the bowl. These coals get very messy.

For the price, I think these coals are worth it. I get mine for free with my order from a certain vendor, who I won't mention since I'm not sure if they're banned.

If you guys are tight on money, definitely give these a try. I'd still rather use CCN's but considering I have 2 108pc boxes, I'll be using these until i run out and will probably buy more after.

If there are any more questions i'll gladly try my best to answer them.

Kanara's are decent for the money. I wouldn't say they are horrible. Would pick them up before AF or Ecobrico.

I also had a box of these. There actually not bad at all, there probably my number 2 coals. Im not a super big fan of the ccn's (just to rich for my blood). To me they smelled less then CH nats but didn't last as long as a CH or CCN but still well past Ql's and shitty chinese easy-lites. FRom my experience the ECoBrico's are serious shit. Couldn't get half the the box worth to stay lit. Take them off the stove after 12 minutes put on bowl....5 minutes back at the stove....

i got a couple big boxes if these coals when i ordered from HS a little while back. they are pretty decent, but i still like the razans a lot more. these seem to possibly burn a little hotter, and also do give off a smell when lighting. as far as adding a taste, not much in my experience, but there is a little bit of one

I think they may be the exact same coals as razans. They work okay.

they cant be, because i have smoked them side by side and they were quite different to me

 • 2 years later...
So, in a search for local coconara natural coals, me and my boyfriend came across Kanara coals and decided to give the, a try. We just lit them up and started getting excellent smoke immediately which was pretty unexpected. They took about 5 or so minutes to light and smelled like a campfire but muuuch better than quick lights. We threw two onto our standard bowl with al fahker coca cola shisha and BAM!
Thick smoke! Mild taste added but not too noticable and not bad at all... I'll keep posted about the duration
(Apparently we got ripped off, 1kg pack for $13.. Guess I'm paying for continence.)
