Prank Calls

This is a fairly complicated story, so I'll try to make it as easy as possible...
My friend named Taylor and I were sitting in her car three nights ago talking. All of a sudden, my phone goes off and it's her ringtone, her number, and her picture, basically saying she's calling me. She checked her phone and it said she wasn't calling me at all... So I ignored it. "She" called back 3 more times, and the 4th time, the voice on the phone said my name.
Two nights ago, my girlfriend and I are sitting in her living room enjoying Shark Week when her rigntone, number, and picture all show up on my phone. I freaked out because of the night before and ignored it. I immediately called my friend Taylor to tell her it was happening again. This is where it gets freaky. I got on the phone with her and 2 minutes later, while I'm still on the phone with her, I get a call waiting for HER. The same person I'm on the phone with. Same number, same everything... I switch over and my girlfriend takes the phone. It's a weird voice and right away it said her name, before she said anything. The voice then said "I can see you" and "I want your boy. I want your boy. I want your boy" over and over til I hung up. We remembered she had said something on her Twitter about "hanging with my boy". We freaked out and she called another friend on her phone...Same thing happened. That friend "called" me.

Last night had to be the creepiest of nights... At exactly midnight, my HOUSE called me. I answered and it was just gibberish. Then, about 8 minutes later, one of my friends "called" me again. It wasn't my friend. We were hanging out with a girl we barely hang out with and she answered the phone. And sure enough, right away the voice said her name then something else. She told the voice to stop mumbling and it got pissed off. It kept saying "Get the fuck out of my house. Get the fuck out of my house"

So basically, if you read this all, you could understand that I'm kind of creeped out right now. Is there any suggestions on what to do? What to say? Any explanations for this?

Dude, I would be pissin' my pants if I were you. That is some creepy-ass shit. I don't know what I would do... Maybe do some asking around of your friends (or not really friends but people you know), see if they know anything. The person doing it may have told one of them they were doing it to you. Very rarely does someone fuck with a person without telling someone else about it, unless they're doing it for their own sick pleasure and don't want others knowing it was them.

I know your freaking out and that's not cool what you are going through, but I gotta be honest I'm really interested how someone could pull that off. Sounds like some high tech stuff they are using. Know anyone with that kinda tech or technical equipment?

there is an app, im not sure if its the I phone, that lets you call someone while appearing as someone elses number. My friends would call me all the time at 2 am and it would show up as this girl on my phone. How it works I have no idea but they would call me and they could pick who's name would show up on my phone. Kind of crazy but it might be that.

I think the app can see your contacts. So if all the calls you are getting are from people on your contacts it could easily be this.

Sounds like someone has cloned your friends' numbers. It's also someone who knows the names and voices of your friends, so that night narrow it down a little.

This might end up screwing over one of your friends but call the police.

If it turns out to be one of your friends; they accepted the risk involved with cloning phones and making prank calls so if they get in trouble its their own problem.

If it is really someone out to get you, you will be glad you called the police.

If you have learned anything from horror movies, you know to stay with a group of friends at all times, don't split up even just to go check something out.

Best of luck to you. I hope for your sake it is just some douchbag with a fancy computer program or app. Edited by Skoozle

It gets creepy as hell! And I forgot one part too. My number ended up "calling" my best friends little sisters friends. I guess the voice sounded like me and it was saying a bunch of racist stuff. She called me the 2nd night bitching me out about how my friends have the worst sense of humor and were all assholes..
I'd log the time and date of the calls and check them on your bill to see where they are coming from. I don't know man, that is really odd.
That's the thing... I'm pretty sure it's just gonna say it's coming from the number of my friends. I'm going to Verizon today to say something.

I'm interested too. Nobody I know has that high tech of equipment. Another thing I forgot to mention is on the 2nd night after all this happened, the doorbell rang. At 3 in the morning... We all ran to the window to see who it was. Of course... nobody there. Most likely just coincidence though..

We thought about calling the police, but what would we say? "My friends phone is calling me, but it's not my friend"
They'd think were weren't in our right mind...

Here's another part of the story I forgot to mention. I'm not sure how I forgot because this is huge... The first night that this happened, all of my friends were out at a club drunk off their asses, except for me and my friend Taylor. Yet, I still got a phone call...

wow man, I hope you get it all figured out.
It is a really intriguing story though, I'd be interested to find out how someone does that.

1) Go to the police. It's always good to have something on file no matter what.
They might think your crazy, but if you honestly feel stalked, use the police. It's what they are there for.
Also - if you tell your friends your going to the cops if they are the culprit they will freak when they hear this.
Keep clear detailed records. When you got a call. Dates, Times, ect. What was said.
If they do track this number - they most likely can compare the information for confirmation.
And if you do have a stalker, then they can use this in court.

2) Go to your phone company. Tell them someone is stalking you. They will change your number for free.
They also might be able to come up with the real number that is calling you. Their technology is quite sophisticated. Much more than a spoof-app.

3) Stop posting any personal information online. No twitter. No Facebook. No status'. No blogging.
If it is one of your friends fucking with you this is where they are getting their information from. Chances are if the messages stop or become vague you'll know it's a friend messing with you.

4) Play it safe. Sleep at a friends house - or have someone stay over. Keep your doors & windows locked when at home. If you go out stay with a group of people.

I don't think you need to go to the police, its a common app that can be used on different phones.

It's probably a friend playing a trick on you. When me and my friends used the app, you actually had to know the phone number of the person that you're appearing as in order for it to work. And yes, as you can see, it's hilarious to do it when the person that is supposedly calling is sitting right there with you. lol.

We did it to our friend while he was on his honeymoon....we called as his wife who was sleeping next to him at the time. He was freaking out. lool.

Obviously it's someone who knows you and may even know when you guys are actually in the same car.

like you said your friends were all out drunk and were playing with an app on their cell phones, i had friends do it to me, the fact that you can do that is kinda bothersome, like why is that legal for an app to do that. but really i dont think its anything to honestly fret about.

This is exactly what it is and it's someone you know fucking with you. My friend used to do this all the time and it was hilarious. There was a site you could use to do it as well and it would record the conversations as well as had voice changers and other stuff like that on it. I wouldn't worry about it at all, but discretely try to find out who it is then fuck with them 2x a bad...

It is really bothersome. It's not creepy anymore, just really annoying. Sometimes I'd be expecting a call from someone and they call me, but it's not them. It's the voice saying "leave him alone. leave him alone" all creepy and shiiz.

Yeah, I've found quite a few apps for it. I'm trying to figure it all out, but now the one friend I had in mind, I'm pretty sure it's not him... We got a call the other day and he heard the voice and freaked out.

Bothersome or not, I would find it completely un-funny.

My briefcase gets too heavy with a half dozen 20 rd mags of 7.62 shoved in it, and it's too hot to walk around in a heavy coat over L3a armor. Yep, that would not be funny- I am entirely too jumpy for crap like that.

On the other hand, it's days are numbered. There was a bill about the time of the great healthcare debate, that made caller ID spoofing a crime. As I recall, it has passed, and was just awaiting a signature to become law.

Go to your phone company and ask for a complete statement asking to see all your incoming calls from all networks.

Go back in your phone, look at your received times and match them up.

Find out who it is.

???

Profit!

In all seriousness, once I found out who this was, I'd get them back. I tend to let air out of people's tires for silly garbage like this. That, or filling their air conditioning vents with baby powder.
