Af Double Apple Harsh?

Recommended Posts

I really like nakhla Double apple and Bahraini apple, but am always looking to expand my apple horizons. I fired up a bowl of AF dbl apple, and no matter what I did, low heat, high heat, acclimation, etc, it was super harsh. no burned taste, in fact it was quite tasty, very deep anise base and apple overtones, but it just burned like I was smoking a filterless cigarette. Anybody else have this experience? It was really fresh shisha, and I was using an alien mini and coconut coals.

AF double apple is pretty strong in flavor. If it has a lot of juice and you see it leaking out that could be the problem. Next time strain the juice out a little and fluff the tobacco.

How many coals?
I used 2 coconut coals first, then tried again with 2 halves, both in a standard egyptian, and then the third time used 2 halves in a mini phunnel. All were really harsh. As soon as it heated enough to smoke even a little it got super anisey and harsh at the same time. It was super juicy, like more than normal AF, i'm wondering if i was just smoking boiling glycerine...

I was having the same problem and started looking around on the net and found out that the AF needs to be packed a little lighter it burns easy imo. So I left more room at the top of the bowl. I also found out that I was poking to many holes in the foil so I spaced my holes out more and used less holes. I also had better luck moving the coals more often. I used two coals to get it going then went down to one and if the smoke started geting weak I would throw the second one back on for a few min. After I pack the bowl I usually hold it at an angle and make sure I got enough room all the way around so if the foil sags a bit it wont touch the AF. If you are using quick lights it seems to me that it is easy to burn I havent had a problem with the way I pack it now and I use COCO's when I was having the problem I was using qls.
