Hookah Help/Advice

Recommended Posts

Hey guys!
As of today I call myself proud owner of my own Hookah. Unfortunately smoking hasn't yet been as I hoped. My Hookah produced barely any smoke and the little I get tastes like coal. After 5 or so minutes I check to see if whats up only to realize the tobacco is completely burnt and black. What is it I am doing wrong? I am sure that I don't overpack the head with tobacco, there is the right amount of water in the bowl (around 1 inch over the pipe) and I wait until the coal is red. I place the coal around the edges first to avoud burning the tobacco, yet it always does. I didn't use any molasses/ glycerin and use the tobacco straight from the pack. The foil on the head is nice and tight, with small holes. I am lost as to what I am doing wrong, some help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks.

What kind hookah? The pipe should be around 1 inch into the water or until you hear a nice bubbly sound. You check the valve and verified the ball is there? If so clean it. Is the hose and bowl on tightly? Check for leaks. Make sure the tobacco is not too packed.

you may be putting too many holes in your foil, or you may be using too many coals if you use multiple coals. what kind of coals do you use?

oh and i forgot to add, maybe you should use multiple layers of foil, i like to use 2 or 3 depending on the bowl im using. 3 for an egyptian style or mod bowl, and 2 for a phunnel.

@CP44 Said Hookah: http://www.head-shop.de/02415.html
The pipe is 1 inch into the water and I do have that bubbly sound. I checked both valves and the balls are there. I only got the hookah today and already cleaned it twice, I doubt it's dirty. I ensure that everything is tight and sealed, there are no leaks. The tobacco isnt packed tightly, I tried using less and less everytime..

@ntur
I only used one coal so far.. I was thinking it might be overheating but with only one coal? I am using three kings 3 cm Coal... I was thinking that the coal might be old, on the roll it says June 2008 and the coal breaks easily.

I am really lost here :/

thanks tho

could be not enough tobacco. Nakhla seem to take heat better if packed pretty tight with little or no space between it and the foil.More tobacco mean better insulation (more heat longer to get really hot) with AF you can pack it fluffier because the wetness keeps it from getting too hot to fast (think the gel they use to light guys on fire in the movies)
Also just because it is black does not always mean it is burnt. If it taste burnt then it is burnt.

Okay, I'm not sure if Al Waha should be packed light or tight, but try stirring the tobacco in a tupperware container really good, then sprinkle it into the bowl until it's a little bit above the rim of the bowl, then lightly press down with the palm of your hand, so that it is then flush with the rim. Apply foil, poke holes all over, not too big nor too small, and put on the coal... If you're using one big quicklight coal, put it on the edge and rotate it around the edge of the bowl every few minutes as you smoke. If it's natural cube coals, use two of them, one on each side of the bowl, on the edge. Rotate those around as you smoke. Let us know if this helps.

when i smoke al waha i pack it until its just about level with the rim of the bowl. if youre using one of the dryer flavors of shisha you should pack it tight like nahkla, but some of their flavors that are really juicy you should pack more like AF like venger said. i never really liked 3 kings, ive found that for QL's that i prefer CH ql's. how big is the bowl youre using?
