HookahSKY
Hello everyone I am new to these forums and registered actually a few minutes ago. I first tried smoking hookah about 7 years ago but really got into it 4 years ago. Currently I am using my friend's hookah which she purchased for about $80 at a smoke shop. The hookah is not horrible but at the same time doesn't compare to the hookah's I smoked out of before, in addition her hookah pipe is rusted due to the cheap metal it is made of. So I decided yesterday that it is time for an upgrade. After doing some research on these forums along with a few other sites I came to the conclusion that the top two brands for hookah pipes are Khalil Mamoon and Mya Saray. I read that if I was looking for a larger hookah pipe then I should stick to KM and that is what I did. At first my friend and I looked at the KM hookah pipes on "www.hookah-shisha.com" but then she brought up the idea to look on ebay. So we did and found the Khalil Mamoon Black Horus hookah pipe for a much cheaper price than most other places offered. So we decided to purchase it along with a Large Funnel Bowl. Below are the links and information of our purchase. Item: Khalil Mamoon - Black Horus (32" 1-Hose) $89.95 Link: Ebay - Khalil Mamoon Black Horus Item: Hookah Funnel Bowl $9.95 Link: Ebay - Hookah Funnel Bowl The seller ( Ebay - Caravan Trading ) looked legit and the hookah seemed to be authentic. My questions: is this a good hookah? is the hookah authentic? is the Caravan Grand hose that comes with the KM pipe good? was the Funnel Bowl a good choice? as far as the price goes is this a good deal? which hookah tobacco would you recommend (I read that tangiers is highly rated)? Any addition input/comments that you guys have please feel free to post them ! Thank you very much for taking the time to read this and reply!! Here is the image of the pipe.. Hassouni
It's a fine shisha and certainly authentic, though a proper shisha in the Arab world would never have tacky Ancient Egyptian designs all over the base. But don't mind my biases, it won't affect your smoke. The hose and bowls are good picks. Tangiers is good, so are Nakhla and Al-Fakher (both very easy to find). Others may chime in about Social Smoke, Starbuzz, Fusion, and whatever else, but those aren't as prevalent. As for additional input: Get natural coals, either coconut (we tend to favor Coconaras here, though CH are good) or natural wood (not many people use them but if you want authentic, that's the real deal, OR if you must get instant coals, get CH instants. Also, use heavy aluminum foil, Reynolds HD for example. The thin stuff SUCKS - stuff burns too easily, it sticks to the tobacco more easily, and it tears REALLY easily. You've been smoking for a while, so maybe you know this...pack your bowls all the way to just above the rim (a lot of people do just under which is no good)...dry tobacco like Nakhla (and, though not dry, Tangiers) can be packed fairly well above rim-height. I prefer a safety pin or very slender toothpick for poking holes, and I make sure i stick it down all the way to the bottom of the bowl for better airflow
antouwan
welcome to the forum! make sure you go over the rules so your time here is enjoyable - for everyone. that being said, a few things: i doubt you considered coupon codes. since you're a forum member, you can get 15% off at hookah company and 10%off with hookah john (unless you're premium) HC is selling a KM Hafa/butterfly (the 'name' of that stem you purchased) with a KM hose for 89.95 ($76.46 after discount). http://www.hookahcompany.com/ahlan_wa_shalan_km_hookah_4885_prd1.htm that KM hose will give you as good of a draw, if not better of a draw than the caravan hose. BUT, i think that the caravan hoses are washable (i really don't care about washable hoses, and my best drawing hose is the 'KM long handled hose'/2010 that HC has on their website. the phunnel bowl was a good call BUT the one you got (unless caravan is selling tangiers phunnels) isn't going to be a great one - and a large phunnel is going to use a stupid amount of tobacco. the bowl you got was probably chinese and will not retain the heat as well as the tangiers phunnels that most people here use. that -> is what you wanted: http://www.hookahcompany.com/tangiers_small_funnel_bowl_2070_prd1.htm the tangiers smalls use around 30- 45 grams or so of tobacco and i would say that the chinese large phunnels would run around 70 or 80 grams - roughly. good luck smoking all of that. i was assuming that you would be buying from hookah company, but what i would really recommend - if you're going to be buying from any and everywhere is HJ's mini phunnel http://hookahjohn.com/The-HJ-Alien-MINI-Phunnel-Bowl-121212.htm long story short you're headed in the right direction and have a pretty good setup. if you would have tweaked it just a bit you could have had a slightly better one, and possibly for less cash out of your wallet. is this a good hookah? -yes, it is is the hookah authentic? Tom1
You're looking at an authentic Egyptian handcrafted hookah bowl, also called a head. This funnel style bowl is designed to sit on the top of the hookah shaft Far superior in strength, heat management, and durability to the porcelain type of bowls mass produced in China, the Egyptian clay head is, like everything else associated with a handcrafted Egyptian hookah, made to last.
Hahahaha, "authentic" California design maybe, but that's about it. Don't buy that phunnel, it will be garbage, It would be a better idea to buy a tangiers phunnel from one of the forums supporting vendors. But if you insist on ebay go with this: http://cgi.ebay.com/Egyptian-Phunnel-Hookah-Bowl-/350389712140?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&NHT (Non-Hookah Tobacco)=item5194dab50c It has a picture of a tangiers phunnel, but it's ebay... so who knows. That's a good price on the hookah though. The base is a bit tacky but I kind of like it at the same time.
HookahSKY
Thanks a lot fellas!! I don't know why I waited until after we bought something to register on the forums and ask for opinions... We already purchased both the pipe and the funnel bowl, personally I agree with you guys and I like the authentic middle eastern base design but she really liked this one so I didn't mind too much since it does not affect the way the hookah smokes. Did go a little overboard with the funnel bowl though... but it is not so bad and i can keep it as a backup. And I don't know why I didn't look at the amount of shisha that it holds "60-70 grams", that is A LOT of tobacco!!!! I should be getting the hookah pipe along with the funnel by Friday if not then by next week for sure. I am very happy that I joined this community and can get help and possible in the future provide help to others. So you fellas are certain that the funnel bowl I purchased is Chinese? guess he got me with the whole "authentic Egyptian handcrafted hookah bowl" crap The mini funnel looks pretty small even compared to the small tangiers funnel. For how long (minutes/hours) can you smoke out of these bowls? It is definitely a thing on my To-Do-List to purchase one of these bowls. Since I already purchased the large funnel bowl can you give me instructions on how to use it (packing, changing coals, etc.). Won't the taste of the burned tobacco (at the top of the bowl) mix with the taste of the fresh tobacco (at the bottom of the bowl)? That also brings me to the next point in regards to shisha and chracoal. Tangiers and Coconara seem like a wonderful mix from what I have heard and been told. Up until now I have been using mostly Starbuzz and Exotica. Where would you recommend that I stock up on both coals and tobacco? Thank you to Hassouni, antouwan, and Tom16689 for the input

Venger
I love the base. Ancient Egyptian symbols are cool. Everyone has their own taste. Ray

mustafabey
Well, besides the funnel, you did well. If you got the grand caravan hose, then i believe it is washable, which is what you want. Read Stuie's bowl reviews, they are very informative. Then again your bowl may work well for you. I've done business with caravan and they are good people. My hybrid Egyptian has a caravan stem and its held up well over the years. Now its time to sample the vast array of shisha brands and flavours. Again check out the review section as a guide to what you might want. Other extras can be a help. Good tongs, a wind cover are two important ones. Happy smoking:Hookah:
zizoSC
this is a good hookah. but if ur looking for a good and better hookah buy the (mya mozza). this is the best hookah u will ever smoke through and it is cheaper than the one you posted. the bowl that comes with it is better than the funnel bowl, trust me i've been smoking through it for 5 years and it's the best,it doesn't get rusty it is made of stainless steel. here is the link of the main website http://www.myasaray.com/store/item.asp?ITEM_ID=1016&DEPARTMENT_ID=35. and here is a link for the ebay page http://cgi.ebay.com/Mozza-29-Single-Hose-Hookah-/280556960204?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&NHT (Non-Hookah Tobacco)=item41527f79cc#ht_3550wt_913

Stuie
That Caravan Phunnel is Huge. It's a good phunnel but look at getting a small Tangiers Phunnel so you won't use so much shisha at once.

HookahSKY
Got the hookah one week ago and have to say that I we are loving it!! It looks really nice, the quality is much better than any other hookahs we have owned before, and it smokes like you fellas like to say "like a dream". In addition the Caravan funnel bowl that came with it is not a large or maybe we just have too much tobacco . Thank you all for the information and support!! I took a short video and a picture of the hookah in 2 different houses but both times it was dark so sorry for the lighting..
