 Jacked from Eric: 4/20 method

[quote]1. Acclimate as close to where you are going to smoke as possible. If you want to smoke outside, acclimate outside.

2. Keeping containers open, as said, will allow the tobacco to be forever chasing the humidity if the dewpoint keeps changing hour by hour. Those variations in dewpoint are often associated with afternoon thermals where thunderheads build and then "break loose" after dusk. Leaving them open also allows some flavors to fade given time with any appreciable improvement in acclimation situation.

3. Sometimes the smell might be off, but the tobacco will smoke reasonably well. Kiwi Especially so.

4. As said, leave them open for the four hour window when you normally smoke, and then seal them up for the other 20 hours. As in 1. try to acclimate outside.

5. People in all sorts of states get the tobacco to smoke reasonably well at similar conditions. There is no jinx by state like some people would have you believe.

6. Clearly, smoking at constant dewpoint is preferable, but throwing the tobacco in the freezer is kinda a last-ditch can't get it to acclimate kinda thing, if the humidity is especially damp, but not for regular usage.

Sometimes acclimation is confused with too much heat.  Obviously if it smells bad before you pack the bowl, then acclimation is most likely the issue.

What size phunnel are you using?  What type of coal and are you cutting it up to help with heat management?

for a medium phunnel, you don't need to cut cocos. 2 or 3 cocos should work fine (light 3 and decrease to 2 if you are burning your tobacco). As for acclimatisation, put the tobacco in a container, then leave it open about 4 hours (preferably about the same place and time where/when you usually smoke). That should be enough.

I typically let my stuff acclimate overnight. Just throw it in a container, and leave it open. Then when I'm going to smoke, I leave it our for a few hours before hand, as humidity is always changing.

ive never tried over night i guess it depends on where you live and if your humidity changes dramatically. I could hve sworn that everyone recommended to acclimate during the time of day your going to smoke most. but i guess opening before actually smoking and packing it solves this

You want a really shallow container, not a deep one. Best advice I can give for acclimation.
