Bowls For Bambino

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I'm having a hard time finding bowls to fit my Mya Bambino, particularly phunnel bowls. I'd like to get an alien bowl or tangiers phunnel but don't want to drop the money on something that won't fit. I'm aware of mod grommets, but again am kind of clueless as to which one/s to get. Even the bowl that came with my Bambino doesn't really fit.

Perfect solution: the damp paper towel strip.

How you do it:

1. Take a strip of paper towel (You may have to use multiple strips to build up thickness, depends on the bowl's opening).
2. Wet the strip(s). Then wring all the water out.
3. Apply strip(s) to the stem where the bowl will go.
4. Apply bowl, making sure you used enough strips to make an airtight seal.
5. Smoke!

Or you can even just apply the strips on top of the grommet, to save on making strips. This will be particularly helpful if you get an Alien. The openings on those are way too big.

All my bowls fit my Mya Bambino just fine, including my Phunnels, but I keep a wide selection of bowl grommets handy. The best fitting ones tend to be some thin, opaque silicone looking ones, they don't have a lip on them. I have trouble finding them though. The head on the Bambino stem is kind of fat and I know if I use too thick a grommet, the bowls have a tendency to want to pop off. You could always make your own bowls with fruit--I have yet to do that but with the Bambino, it might be a cool way to go.

I use a med phunnel on my bambino stem and just use the thin grommet it comes with, works fine for me

i use the wet paper towel trick often enough. My mini phunnel doesn't ;like to sit on my KM tri-colour with even a thin grommet.

Word, Mush. My Tang mini phunnel doesn't like grommets on my KM either, so I'm forced to use paper towels. Fits fine on my Mya Petite with the included Mya grommet, though.

I got to thinking about my comment and realized it didn't make sense. Went and looked and realized how big the top of the stem on my KM is compared to the fairly tapered top of the Bambino stem. I guess it's not the diameter of the Bambino's stem top but its shape that makes bowls want to pop off. It IS annoying. Hope you can find a non-paper towel solution, but it really would work great. Don't know why I hate using paper towel so much, but I do.

We've got some KM Pears at the lounge that we serve with Tangiers Small Phunnels that do not fit using the typical, rubber head-grommets. Our solution was to wrap the tip of the shank (where the bowl sits) with electrical tape. It doesn't take many passes to get a good seal, but it has worked flawlessly for us for over a year. The best part is, we only have to replace the tape once ever 4-5 months rather than replacing a wet paper towel ever time.

No offense to all you folks you live and die by the roll, but I guess I just haven't yet had a situation where I came to the conclusion that the best solution was a wet paper towel. In my experience, there's always a better solution. :)
