HOOKAH PALOOZAH!

Attention all hookah lovers! Please come join us in EKU's scenic Ravine for the first annual HookahPaloozah! Bring down your hookah and friends, and start up a bowl of tangiers surrounded by other hookah enthusiasts like yourselves! There will be live music from local bands, along with recorded music ranging from reggae, to Middle Eastern pop selections, to just plain out soulful rock. There will hopefully be a few booths set up from local cafes and smoke shops selling their products and supplies. All are welcome to join from EKU's campus, the surrrounding richmond area and Lexington as well! If you don't mind the drive, we want you here!!! Blow the dust of your pipe's travel shoes, get down to the ravine and smoke some hookah!

WHEN:
September the 29th, Wednesday - 9:00 PM-?

WHERE:
EKU's campus, smack dab in the middle of their outside ampitheatre.

A FEW THINGS TO KNOW:
Assuming everything works out, bring CASH! There will be plenty of goodies to choose from when you arrive from our local smoke shops and cafes.

Please only bring as many people as you plan on letting use your own hookah! We don't need a big line stretching across the ravine of people mooching other people's hookahs. That will NOT be tolerated.

PLEASE TELL FRIENDS! The best way to have the best turn out of fellow hookah smokers, is to let them know it's actually happening!!! The more the merrier!

(I regrettably actually HAVE to say this) - Hookah is not only a cultural and dignified event, but extremely fun! We aim on keeping it that way! NO PARAPHENALIA WHATSOEVER! DO NOT ASK, MENTION, SUGGEST, BRING, USE, SELL, BUY, ETC. ANY PARAPHENALIA OF ANY KIND! DOING SO WILL RESULT IN A FRIENDLY VISIT FROM THE RICHMOND POLICE DEPARTMENT!

Admission and participation is completely free, and we hope to see you come down!

Please feel free to contact me (TheyCallMeDave) For any questions or comments. Best way is by email. david_frank2@eku.edu

Bring ONLY tangiers? watsup with that?
QUestions:
1.Will there be vendors selling Tangiers? / Cheaper?
2.Will there be washable hoses for sale? /nammor/razan/narbs
3.Are prices generally cheaper?
4.Should I bring my own hot coil?

Great Idea, sounds like it should be a lot of fun. Hopefully something like this will happen in SoCal

Haha, I just used tangiers as relatable reference. You could smoke EH for all I care. Well, not EH. But no, anything is smokable.

No vendors. Doing anything as an event throws up a ton of red tape, and there is no way I can get them to sell tobacco on campus. Bummer, I know. Lol. So the vendor idea is out of the question, sorry folks. We did manage to snag an acoustic/harmonica band, a jazz ensemble, a gospel rapper, and possibly a jam band for live entertainment, so that should be fun.

Bring a coil. These scene college kids all use holland QL's. Lol.

On a much lighter note, EKU decided to do a news arrtical on HookahPaloozah, and hookah smoking in general. A third party new hookah smoker, a stranger, and Myself were interviewed. The news artical is about what HookahPaloozah is being created for. It's for recognition. For many things. For musicians needing to get out of MySpace music, and make a name for themselves. For the Diversity on campus to be recognized, especially Middle Eastern culture, and be appreiated, rather than ignored or judged.

But, my main point, was to provide a SAFE, LEGAL, and a NON-MISCONSTRUED view of hookah smoking. I made points on how the "Scientific studies" done on hookah versus cigarette smoking, were warped studies, due to the experiments burning the two tobaccos at the same heat, and giving false information. The infamous "Baking at 350 degrees Vs. Burning at 900 degrees" Arguement. That articals and media can warp facts to make hookah the antagonist in the mix of things. Showing the social and cutural benefits of hookah. Showing that anyone that has any kind of respect of the art of hookah, or respect for themselves, DO NOT EVER use hookah for NHT. That it's people who are misinformed on the subject of hookah that either A: Use it innapropriately, or B: Have a misconception of hookah. Even the strangers and new comers all had good things to say about the event, and hookah.

The final quote in the paper is "David Frank states 'All it takes is 10 minutes, show people what hookah really is, inside and out. The dignity, the history, the culture, the fun, and the TRUTH. Things aren't always what they appear to be, even though everyone might think so. That's what HookahPaloozah is all about."

If this event bombs, I have solace in knowing that I can maybe turn a few heads here on campus.

Sorry to write a novel. It's just when they take hookah smoking, and link it to anologies such as chain-smoking 70 cigarettes, and inhaling 4000 toxic chemicals for 3 hours, I can't help but wonder what kind of research they did before writing a conservative, fear-pounding artical. Anyone who smokes hookah doesn't do it for his cardio. We know smoking ANYTHING isn't benificial to your health. But the exaggerations need to stop. Stories need to be set straight, and true facts, based from one scource, compared to another need to be established.

...Thread bounce. Whoops. HOOKAHPALOOZAH!!!! :D

Solid event man,I live in Knoxville and that is only about 3 hours away. The problem is the day. I gotta work the next day @ 6:45 am. If you have another event on a fri or sat I would consider the drive. Good luck.

Thanks to all for the wishes, We're really hoping this thing gets out!

There is a radical religious group that preaches in the fountain square about how if you continue sinning, and don't begin a life of un-sin, that we are all going to hell. That all militia are condemned to hell, along with girls having short hair, caffiene drinkers, smokers, gays, etc. A religious hate group.

So I figured... If they are going to draw in people by the hundreds, just to piss them off, why not take advantage of the free advertising? We erected a 5 by 8 foot banner right next to them. It's was not only effective, but hilarious.
