Hookahnoob
I am using 3 Kings 33mm coals. Seem good to me so far. And I smoke away from the kitchen and dont really know if I want to get natural coals yet. Do you all who use 3 kings or equilvent constantly rotate (move) your coal around to make sure the tobacco gets burned evenly? I seem to be smoking just right with my cheap ass seshia I got with my hookah. I really want to meet someone who is an expert to wach them. cymptom
When I used to use Three Kings I would usually break them in half and put the halves across from each other on the edges of the bowl. Every so often, rotate them 90 degrees around the center of the bowl. Control the intensity of the heat by how close the coals are to the center of the bowl -- as the smoke begins to thin out, move them closer to the center. That's how I used to do it... certainly not the only way or the best way. Hookahnoob
Thats what I am doing now. Only not breaking it up. Just rotate it everyonce in a while. I get about an hour of smoking. Probably get more but I haven't lit another coal for the same bowl yet.
Bleeding_Heart1
I do this: I light 2 coals and put them on the foil/screen "piggyback". Like this /=. i smoke with it like that for about 5 min then i rotate 90* I smoke for awhile then rotate again. You get the picture. I always get good smokes, i find that "piggyback" is the easyest way to smoke with. You can judge you heat easily. For instance, if its burning too hot, take the piggy back off ( / <---that coal).Enjoy!
c4r80n
sometimes i just put my coal on the middle and leave it alone.but i pretty much do what bleeding heart does. when they get smaller you can just lay em side by side. and rotate around.
Sonthert
When smoking Kashmir Peach, I start with four Japanese tablets almost dead center. As they go down some, I start another Japanese table. When its lit I go to the 4-1 setup (Note X denotes a new coal, small x denotes a smaller, older coal): x x X x xand light another. Once the sixth coal is lit I go to a 4-2 or a 3-3 X x x or X x x x x X x x X I then light in pairs rotating new and old pairs: XX xx xx when a new pair would get lit, I would put it on the bottom of the diagram. I can usually get 4-10 hours out of a large bowl, depending on humidity.
lilotaku
Tangiers,on one of your Tangiers bowls, the regular sized ones. How would you setup your bowl and coals? Do you suggest foil instead of a screen? They way i setup my coals with a mya bowl and kashmir peach is, I put all my maassel in loosely and make sure the sides are well covered and i tap it down lightly just enough so that the maassel barely can touch the bottom of the screen. I then cut my tablets in half(i use Abu HItham tablets/coals) and then place 3 of them in a triangular pattern around the edges of the screen to "warm up" the bowl. When i'm about to start smoking, I take one of the halves off and put the other 2 pieces opposite of each other. When the coals start dying out, I add another half(s) to the other out edge(s) This seems to work best for me with this bowl/maassell combo. /_ &nb sp; | | warm up &nbs p; &nbs p; smokingI just mainly wanted to see how you setup your "normal" sized bowls with tablets since i just ordered a tangiers bowl . Because if your using 4 tablets, that must be one big bowl your using

Macho555
I used to break a tablet up into four pieces and lies the bowl with them, but after a while it just got to be too much of a pain. Now I just split it in half, or do what bleeding heart does. At any rate, I get a decent smoke.
eyece
Bleh, Best way to smoke the 3kings is lighting 2 coals, breaking them each in half, and stick the moons around the foil so it makes a diamond. As far as natural coals, some of the natural coals dont light, they burn and burn and leave white smoke and stink up your entire house. If your using natual coals, definitely use outside, unless you want bbq smell in your houseZ :/
lilotaku
If you are going to use Natural coals, i would use Nour Finger coals and Abu Hitham coals(i dont know if these are considered natural). I don't think i've ever had issues with them getting to fully light, and they definitaly don't stink up the place once they are lit. I do find though that a few of the natural coals i have used do put out more odor/smoke during the initial light, so i usually light my coals outside. I personally am not a big fan of 3 kings or any of the gun powder quick lites just due to taste issues but i know a good amt of people who do enjoy them for the convenience. GixxerGirl
I personally have found the natural wood charcoals to be my favorite, but since you prefer lighting coals in the kitchen, I can see how the three kings are serving their purpose. When I used similar coals, I'd break them up into two, or if possible, three pieces and place them around the edges of the head to keep the tobacco from burning too quickly. It's always good to rotate them around every once in a while and flip them over to keep the entire piece burning evenly. Sometimes it's just hard to get the pieces to break the way you want them to. lol.
Sonthert
For a small or medium Tangiers bowl, three Abu HIthams...add a fourth if you want to and it doesn't overheat...some days it'll take a fourth coal, some days it won't.
eyece
Isn't is the smaller you break up the coals the shorter they last? I think if I have 2 3Kings coals going, andi break them each up in half, they only lite for alike 30 mis or a little longer befor i ask them and theres nothing left. Catalyst Paintball
Your right,The more you break up the coals the shorter they last.BUTIt is better for heat distribution. When I used 3 Kings, I would take 2 discs, break them both in half, and light 3 halves. Smoke with the 3 halves until they are pretty small, then light the last half you have. That should last the bowls worth.
