Ugh I don't smoke Nakhla...not after that one time. Only time hookah every made me sick.

SB is very hit or miss I've found. Their raspberry I have is red, but blue mist and tangerine dream are not.

Social smoke says their brand is dye free, but is their stuff any good?

I'm a huge fan of Social Smoke, personally... SS is a yellow, almost yellowbrown shisha. Alot of nakhla is red dye free. I know that it can be overwhelming as far as what it can do to yhou sometimes, but alot of the best flavors out there are unwashed tobaccos. I.e., Nakhla Double Apple and Tangiers Kashmir Peach, a couple personal favorites of mine. Just don't smoke in great quanities, and don't smoke as frequent as you would other brands. Drinking something hydrating, like water, helps a ton. Bust just from remembering what I can...

Selected Starbuzz
A majority of Nakhla
Social Smoke

If you want to get really selective, go to the review section in the forum. Nine times out of 10, they will list the consistancy, and color of the tabacco. Hope this helped.

Why the hell would anyone dye tobacco???
It's a psychological marketing stunt. And there's some evidence that it may work by convincing your mind that the color matching the flavor it has a stronger flavor. A dyed form of placebo effect in a way. Just as psychologically speaking, no drink is as cold as the one with ice in it, even though a thermometer in two glasses, one with and one without, may show exactly the same temperature. Your mind interprets the one with ice as being colder even when you have evidence to the contrary.

It's still stupid in my opinion though, and people are moving away from dye in anything. Let's just hope they don't outlaw tobacco altogether before they get the dye out.

Some flavors have no dye like in SB but SB will put green or blue dye in bluemist. Not much of a difference. But why avoid the dyes?
There seems to be a great number of people who are allergic to them and quite a number were discovered long after they were introduced into food sources to be highly carcinogenic. So I'm thinking avoiding them is a pretty good idea. Works for me - it means Tangiers will sell more.

Why don't they just remake the dyes so they don't have carcinogens? Are you sure they haven't done this already?

even the non-red sb has dye i'd bet. The golden colour aint natural.. ;)
I don't know. Plenty of pipe tobaccos are golden.
But the goo is golden too. And its a different kind of yellowish tone than I have seen with any natural tobacco. 99% sure it is in fact dyed.

They keep replacing them as they discovered each one is dangerous. But there's no guarantee the new formulas aren't just as dangerous. Everybody thought asbestos was a great insulator until a couple decades down the road it started showing up in people lungs. It's easier just to not buy those products that contain them if you can. And it will eventually lead to them being pulled from the market. What do you do if you're the worlds biggest producer of tobacco and no one is buying your product because of the dye in it? You take the dye out and get your product back in the market.

not sure if you guys have ever read a surgeon generals tobacco warning... and you probably shouldn't if you're worried about the side effects of dyes.

normally i don't care about dyes, but i ocassionally appreciate them if i'm making a mixer. can see how much i have of what much easier. i second checking out the reviews section for cut/color descriptions.
