Fumo1
I read an artice in the news the other other day about hookkah smoking. In this article it mentioned that one hookah smoking session is the equivalent of smoking 100 cigarettes. Since I believe everything I read in the news I thought I'd put 100 cigarettes in my mouth and smoke them all at once to compare and contrast the experience............ ntur
well then ive been smoking somewhere in the neighborhood of 1000 cigarettes a week. lol
TheyCallMeDave
There are too many variables that are tossed around in these "tests". Heat management, smoking technique, what's IN THE SMOKE, Etc... Sooner or later, things are going to be cleared up, and somone is going to record and document a true un-biased, accurate test. And we will see the results when they do.

king_lunchb0x
well wut i was thinking about when i brushed my teeth...i thought to myself man....for smoking a bowl a day for almost an entire year ive not had any discoloration of my teeth or nails....shisha can't be worse then cigarettes. of course smoking is bad for u know matter what but how much is equal to what hasn't really been tested by a reputable source. There is to much urban legend around health risks of a hookah. i would say smoking the more natural roll your own stuff is closer to hookah then smoking name brand like Marlboro or basics cigarettes. ****note*** this s just what i would guess based on the types of tobacco how basic it is
alexander
This really wouldn't be that hard to test. You would simply have to hook up a "smoking machine" like the ones they use for cigarette testing to the hose port of a hookah, set it up normally, and then "smoke" a bowl through the machine. To be honest, all I would really expect is maybe some condensation where the tar from cigarettes is usually collected. Someone get on this, really. RingsMaster
just found out from my roommate that the WHO had to retract their previous statement about hookah because even they realized that there claim were wrong. they realized its not smoke but vapor because of the heat of the coals not being hot enough for combustion the tobacco. Yasseah
Take 1 drag off a cigarette then exhale the smoke through a napkin. Then take 30 big drags off a hookah and blow the smoke through another napkin. Compare the napkins. Case closed, bullshit news journalism is bullshit.

Nacko
The fact of the matter is, we don't know. No rigorous study has been performed and provided conclusive results on the cumulative dangers of hookah smoking versus other means of consumption. We can talk at length about how it couldn't possibly be as bad as cigarettes because it smells better, doesn't get burned, is wet, doesn't leave stains, but that's not very convincing evidence for anything. It probably is less carcinogenic than a cigarette for a given quantity of smoke but that's where this "It's like smoking x amount of cigarettes" bit comes into play: so much of that smoke is inhaled in a given session that even if it is less dangerous, the sheer volume may negate that. At the end of the day, smoking is bad for you. Always has been, always will be, I hope we don't need anymore studies to tell us that.
Chreees
We won't ever truly know until a totally unbiased, proper study is done. Also the study has to state exactly what kind of coals, etc. I'm talking precise. And they have to actually pack the damn bowl right. All the proof I need is this: I can smoke hookah, enjoy it, run two miles three times a week, not experience any breathing issues, etc. With the few cigs I've smoked in my life, they made my throat hurt, lungs feel like shit, etc.

no longer welcome
I hate when I read or hear studies like that. "1 hour of hookah smoking is equivalent to smoking 1 pack of cigarettes".....really? Let's test this, let's take a hardened cigarette smoker and see if he can smoke a hookah for 1 hour. Then see if he can smoke a full pack of cigs in 1 hour. Then, take a nonsmoker and have him smoke a hookah for 1 hour. Then take a nonsmoker and have him smoke a pack of cigs in one hour. Actually don't eve try this, just imagine it. You could seriously get hurt trying to smoke a pack of cigarettes in 1 hours, why are people so retarded in their claims?
i remember reading somewhere that vaporized molasses is a natural lung experant, dont take my word on it but i believe it to be true as far as i can tell, im a heavy asthmatic when my heart rate gets going but have not had a single health problem since my journey began with hookah. i take that back, sometimes my gf will pass me the hookah when it gets really harsh and me being an idiot dont purge it and take a nice long puff only to cough my lungs our of my chest, which then leads to a little bit of shallow breathing but that is it lol. redjako
Garbage. The studies cited typically mention to volume of "smoke" which is actually VAPOR in a hookah. Google is your friend. Even the CDC article posted years ago was trashed by other scientists who were angry about their methodology, not necessarily their trashing on hookah itself. Shisha is heated / cooked, not burnt (or you wouldn't be able to pull on it..try it ). It is NOT doing you any favors, but is a far cry from smoking ciggies. Go smoke 2 packs a day (like me) for 2 years. Quit, then get into hookah later.
Hassouni
Agreeing with those citing the fact that it's vapor, and here's your proof: What happens to a cigarette or cigar? It ashes. Some of that ash goes into you. That's bad. What happens when you're done smoking your nargile? does the mu'assal look ashy? or does it just look cooked? Unless you're incompetent, it's the latter. Nothing is burning! Therefore NO SMOKE.

Also, i feel that some studies just burn the hell out of the shisha to get quick results. This is just a guess though. but that may also lead to their skewed studies and such. GoldenFingerBl4ster99
Most of the studies that make it out into mainstreem media are there cause they've been pushed there. It seems like whenever I smoke a hookah with someone they tell me that fact about the 100 cigarettes. Theres over 4000 chemical compounds created when you smoke a cigarette (many of them known carcinogens), how can that be worse than smoking shisha. I'm not trying to say shisha is good for you at all, but when people try and make the argument that it's worse than cigarettes I have to laugh. CIGARETTE COMPANIES DON'T WANT PEOPLE SMOKING A HOOKAH BECAUSE IT MEANS THEY'RE NOT SMOKING CIGARETTES! IT'S THAT SIMPLE.
