Lucid will be a LOT easier to work with for your first time using Tangiers. Everyone's fav flavs are different, so I say just try what flavors you think you'd like. I feel it's an acquired taste kind of flavor for many. I loved it right off the bat. Double Orange is orange, licorice, lemon, and rose. My favorite orange flavor, backed by Orange Soda. Matto
Get the bigger 3k imo. And for tangiers pretty much anything that sounds good to you will be a good flavor, just pick a couple out and then look up their reviews in the review section. Also, he needs the 3ks instead of naturals because he travels and moves his hookah a lot I believe.
Chris K
Are the 3ks easier to transport than CH QLs? I will be moving them around campus and driving them to the lake.
dizzbizz
As far as QL's go, I'd go for the CH QL. I bought 3 boxes cause I found them locally and they beat the socks off of 3K's. They last so much longer and burn so much hotter. The box is small and easily portable. You wont go wrong with them. Not to mention they light in under a minute with any heat source. Chris K
OK, I think I may give the CHs a chance, just because I've been using 3 kings fro my entire hookah life. I'd also like to commend the forum, this is one of the most helpful forums I've been on, and I've never seen a mobile website that worked better than this one does. Chreees
Yes the licorice in it is barely noticeable.
Capt. Morgan
3K coals aren't terrible but there not my favorite. If I have to use QLs I'll use CH coals, yes they are difficult to light with a regular lighter but a torch lighter will do the job very well. As far as Tangiers goes, mimon is a good one if you like minty flavors. And of course don't forget to acclimate tangiers when you get it.
combs08
Get a QT. I have one and love it! And also, if you're worried about the base breaking because it's glass, Hobby Lobby sells vases that look exactly like them and fit perfectly for $3. You can get them in a bunch of colors as well
Chris K
just added up the cost.....tis quite expensive to do the QT, nammor, lucid, tangiers phunnel, and the QLs....over $100 is the phunnel really necessary? would it make sense to use it with flavors OTHER than tangiers? i'm intrigued by tangiers but its an expensive habit to start. [/quote] you do not NEED a phunnel. Just about any bowl will smoke. A phunnel is nice for juicy tobaccos but I have used a modern and a vortex and both are cheap and work. Hell I have even used the mya bowl that comes with the QT. There is a technique for each bowl. take your time and learn how to use each style. Bowls break and if your phunnel were to break what would you smoke out of till your new one arrived. I suppose you could fashion one out of wet paper towel OR use the one that came with the hookah. my shopping list for you is QT,nakhla ,3 kings coals to start (CH coals work ok but are a bitch to light and smell like a campfire) then if you still have some money a nammor hose and a phunnel (in that order) Ray
Chris K
OK! got my mya qt in today. ordered with: romman good times and summer crisp tangiers static starlight. i have a phunnel and nammor on the way. SO my first session making my own hookah went surprisingly well. i really liked the good times flavor, it never died, although it didn't buzz that well. the session lasted about an hour and a half, and i think it had more in it but we had to come in. on to my questions though the smoke would fluctuate a lot....it would go from pretty good to great, then back to OK. i'm thinking that it was a heat issue or i didn't pack enough, but it did cook all the way through when i opened it up. i'm using the golden coals that came with it just out of curiosity, and i really liked them, but i saw that the smoke was best when i had two coals on rather than one...although we only used 2 coals for the entire session also, when i blew out the hose, there was a decent amount of water in it, and i'm just guessing that means i need to put in less water? finally, cleaning. i just rinsed everything out (except the hose) with water right after i got inside. all seems clean, but the bowl is showing some discoloration (i'm guessing that just happens). is this a decent way to clean it? thanks for everything guys! i'm really excited now that i finally got to smoke it
Venger
cleaning a qt is the easiest thing in the world...just rinse. the inside of a mya bowl is not glazed so yeah they get dirty fast. I always use 2 coals for decent smoke. when the coal gets smaller you will lose smoke. a wind cover will stretch out that time. As far as the water. could be yours was too high. should be just about an inch over the bottom of the stem. My hose also builds up a bit of condensation while I smoke. that's pretty normal. Chris K
Ok, had my second session with the QT tonight, used Romman Summer Crisp and golden QLs. I changed the amount of water, so no water in the hose this time. On the other hand, I'm still having trouble with the smoke. I felt like it just wasn't getting warm enough, so I put on a second coal once the first one started shrinking, and we got great clouds for a little while until it got somewhat harsh, so I dropped to one and moved the coal, and we never got good clouds again. Would it make sense that I'm not packing in enough shisha? I hear about how great the QT smokes, but we're never getting these monster clouds. Also, could it be that I poked too many holes in the foil? Also, the flavor on the romman didn't last as long and wasn't as pronounced, but I'm guessing that is just the flavor/same reason we can't get smoke. dizzbizz
Yeah, Id say more tobacco. It sounds like its underpacked. the amount of holes in thw foil doesnt really effect the smoke.

ntur
id go with one of the myas. i have a hobo and its great for parties and such, but the downstem and hose are kind of narrow so it has a harder pull than a traditional hookah
