momentum
So I have some tangiers melon blend from about a year ago, and have kept it in an airtight container. I've been tryin to smoke it, and while it still buzzes me, and doesn't hurt my throat or anything, the taste is just gone. Wonderin if anyone else has smoked some old tangiers and had the same great flavor it used to have, because then it just might be somethin im doin wrong. I tried smoking some straight out of the container and it wasn't goin well, so i let some re acclimated and still no flavor =( Is a year just way too long for tangiers to survive? momentum
Ah that saddens me then, guess I'll just have to smoke my tangiers faster next time. Although, that doesn't seem like such a bad thing on second thought.

Chreees
Different flavors have different shelf life after it's been opened... Here's the list by the man himself: Shelf Life of Tobacco Depends on the flavor... Based on Tangiers Flavors: High Shelf Life Mint Floral Flavors Chocolate Raspberry Blackberry Red Apples Kashmir flavors Apricot, Peach, Nectarine Passionfruit Horchata Cinnamon Clove Medium Shelf Life Green Apples Strawberry Blueberry Cherry Lemon Grape Some Licorice Flavors Tangiers Marigold Vanilla Guava Tea Flavors Short Shelf Life Orange Grapefruit Lime Pineapple Watermelon Some Licorice Flavors Pear Kiwi High would be...indefinitely. Medium would be 6 months after opening. Low would be 2-3 months after opening.
momentum
hmmm interesting. Didn't see the flavor that im smoking (melon blend) on the list at all. But seeing as how most of them are 6 months and under, I should probably give up on this old batch. I got some tropical revenge tho comin in the mail pretty quick, so at least ill have some decent tangiers until my next order comes in. Thanks for that list btw, also wondering if theres any way to revive old tangiers...
Rani
I had this conversation with Eric once about length a flavor would be "viable". According to him it does depend on the flavor and what goes into it, but container also has a pretty big influence as well. According to him, you have to keep it in the smallest possible container to limit air exposure. Which in my mind creates a problem because I like big containers with stirring room. How else do you gets all the juices that sink through gravity back into the tobacco? He said you have to find a balance of the smallest possible container and still have stirring room. So I'm thinking about going to freezer bags tightened all the way down on the tobacco, and then tossing them inside plastic bowls. Freezer bags are strong enough that I could open them up and stir without too much danger of busting the bag, and having the bowl as the firmer base to hold and stir up against. Only way I can find to figure out so far how to find that happy medium of minimizing air exposure and still have stirring room. 'Rani
thatonethere
I've had the same problem. I let my Tangiers hang around and it as no flavor. I had to throw out Static Starlight and mimon so far. Where does Cocoa, fit on the scale? Edited September 30, 2010 by thatonethere
boludo
static starlight has a short shelf life, but mimon (specially the mint in mimon) and cocoa should last forever... Edited October 1, 2010 by boludo

[/quote] static should have a medium shelf life...it consists of grape, lemon and rose....the first two flavors are in the "medium" category. unfortunately, i'm unable to test this...since i'll smoke through a package of Static Starlight in 2 weeks...
