Has anyone ever smoked a midwakh? It has been years but I found a source online with a variety of dokha including flavors like double apple.

A midwakh is a small pocket pipe of the "one hit" variety. Dokha is a tobacco product, I believe Iranian in origin. The tobacco is classified as cold warm and hot, which signifies perhaps nicotine levels and harshness. It gives you quite a buzz. Smoked it a bit when i was in Tunis and Kairouan in the 70's

Heres the website that I've found with seems-to-be decent pricing.

Anything you can recommend, Mustafabey?

I got a laugh from the copyright warning, and there on the jar of "Salem's Blend" is a public domain picture from the late 1800s. See the Wikipedia article on pipe smoking.

this is what Gulf Arabs smoke to show that they're bad-ass, with shisha and cigs being extremely common, and NHT wayyyy more illegal/risky than it is in the West

Hmmm, this is something I might like. How many times have you wanted to smoke, but didn't want to do the whole set up and then sit down for an hour or more, etc. sometimes you'd just like a little taste, you know? Not the whole production. I used to make due with a flavored cigarette now and then but didn't really like them and then Congress came along and outlawed them anyway. So I could see this being quite a good thing actually.

unless i'm drunk or have a really nice Cuban, I've never wanted to smoke anything besides the nargile, so I dunno.....plus some of the dokha is still green, so you're sure to raise even more suspicions than you would with your nargile

I recieved my basic midwakh yesterday and a few sample bags of dokha. I ordered the basic pipe plus one sample, they sent me three. Delivery was fast. I ordered the basic midwakh pipe which came with a storage/carrying bag and a box of filter mouthpieces. As described on the website, with very rapid shipping. I chose the North African blend, a warm dokha, not mild(cold) or strong(hot). This morning I decided to try the pipe. The tobacco was greenish with brown hints and ground finer than cigarette tobacco. I tightly loaded the small one hit bowl and fired it up. It had some harshness and I had to surpress the desire to cough, the taste was a nice tobacco flavor similar to non adulterated tobaccos like American Spirit. The buzz was immediate and spread but lasted only a few minutes. It was a pleasant experience, but i won't be using my midwakh as much as I do my narghile. It is not quite the calm meditative experience of a narghile, but has more in common with a cigarette. Still worth the modest price paid for the pipe and extras.

Probably a good idea, pipe is small stuff is greener than cig tobacco but the smell is tobaccoo 100% back in the late 60's and 70's while roaming around, I rolled my own cigarettes wit Bull Durham and the like and frequently got hassled by small town cops.

The same thing happens to me all the time. On campus, I get harassed about my hookah being "drug paraphernalia" and when I smoke hand-rolled cigarettes, I get accused of smoking NHT. if I was going to buy this, I would definitely need my own place. Edited by INCUBUSRATM

Back when I returned from my all expenes paid vacation to South Vietnam, I returned to the small rural college I went to back in 1963. Recently discharged from the Marines and a Nam vet, i was greeted with skepticism by nearly everyone. Back in those days Vietnam vets had the reputation of being heavy dopers. Although drugs were available in Nam,most of us figured out that being either drunk or high was a big liability when the shit hit the fan. And the shit hit quite often. However, the college administration decided to keep a close watch on me and on Thanksgiving break searched my room. When I returned to school, I was greeted by the ridiculous campus rent a cops and escorted to the Dean's office. On the Dean's desk was a bag with about a pound of green NHT (Non-Hookah Tobacco) taken from my room. "You can quit school now, and leave today.otherwise I'll be calling the State Police" said Dean Hayward. Call em, said I. About a half hour later some uniformed state troopers arrived headed by a veteran sergeant. He examined the bag and asked me whether I had spent any time in japan. I told him I was stationed in Okinawa after my nam tour was up. He asked the Dean for a pot of boiling water aand some cups and he and I sat down over a cup of Japanese green tea and told each other tales of exotic women, sushi and sake. The dean declined to partake.

My BF is looking to give up cigs for maybe a pipe. Do you think this might be something for me to get him to try? He does like turkish tobacco (I think that's what Camels were, he dropped them when they changed the formula).

The friend who I gave it to said to me that he doesn't crave cigs after smoking it, and since it's natural tobacco, if he could get that stuff here, he'd just smoke it and not cigs.

Giving this the bump as we have been talking about it again..

I am pretty interested to try. Some of my questions have been answered allready. I was wondering how accurate the flavors really are, because there do seem to be a lot.

I think another questions is how durable are these? Will it last me as long as a well taken care of hookah? Also..what is the possibility of becoming addicted to Nicotine thorough this? I limit my Hookah use for this reason, and have had no issues. And I think part of it that helps is that I do not always have the time or will to get everything set up, going, and then clean up after a few hours. With this I could get a quick buzz that will fade out..and my worry is that I would get it, and then it would fade, and then I would want another, and another and another. With my Hookah Buzz , as long as I space it out, it stays through most of the session. So I dunno.

I'm glad this popped up, as I picked one up recently and have been enjoying. Floataround, I really don't know much about it, other than there are no additives and it's a whole other type of tobacco. Though there is probably possibility of addiction, as with hookah, it's not really the nicotine that does it for cigarette smokers. It's moreso the additives. I've been smoking hookah for five years, and dokha for about a month now, and I don't crave either. You'd be amazed but the buzz is not a "come back" kind of thing with Dokha. In fact, even with the cold dokha, the buzz is so intense that I rarely want it more than once or twice a day.

I will warn you, however, if you're thinking of trying it. Do not assume you have a nicotine tolerance because you smoke hookah. I came off a week marathon of a few bowls a day of hookah, then smoked dokha, and nearly fell out of the chair I was in. It was a cold dokha, so I'd advise against getting anything more potent.

As far as durability, I haven't had mine long enough to say. It seems fairly stout, provided you're not being an idiot with it. After you develop a slight layer of carbon in the bowl (helps to protect the wood and mixes in previous flavors), it should last a long while. For a cheaper medwakh, my guess would be at least a year. For a high quality handmade one, or one made out of metal, it could theoretically become an heirloom piece, so it just depends on your caring for it.

So my package arrived from Nirvana and I've decided I like this stuff. It did not, however, give me a buzz. But it's strong enough that when I smoked a bowl of AF about an hour later the combined nicotine did buzz me for about 10 minutes. What I really liked was that it's enough nicotine to energize me and since I have my own office at work and it's sometimes so quiet I want to just curl up for a nap so there are times I could really use a quick pick me up without having to take a hookah into the office. And I hate cigarettes. So this is perfect to replace the cigarettes I thought I might have to resort to.

It is very very smooth without that yucky after taste cigarettes have so it's definitely gong in my purse for when I'm in the mood for a very quick smoke. Good stuff. Glad it came back around.
