Coleman
So ive had people tell me these arent as bad as people on here say they are and ive heard they suck. Well i was smoking out of my Mya QT wuth the H-s Phunnel loaded with tangiers tobacco using 3 coco coals. After 3 hours the coals died and i checked on the tobacco. the top layer was burnt but all the bottom layer was still moist and not really burnt. Im wondering why the lower shisha wasnt burnt like the top layer?
IainUM
it does that because the area at the top has the highest temperature since the coals are sitting on it. this happens normally with pretty much all phunnels. it isn't anything bad
Arcane
you didn't smoke long enough either...

Epoch
I use an H-S phunnel pretty often. You could probably squeeze a couple more hours of smoking from it. Keep putting the coal on! Edited October 18, 2010 by Epoch
Coleman
well lets look at size next to a tangiers phunnel would it be a smal tangiers, a medium tangiers, or large tangiers phunnel?
Arcane
sometimes the same size as a larger small, sometimes in between a small and a medium...
spectrum055
My H-S Phunnel used to last two - Three hours max depending on how I packed it and what coals I used. And I was always happy with that bowl, I've only had four bad smokes out of it compared to six months or more of it being used as my only bowl... I used it up to the point until my old local joint dropped it on the floor one night and broke it... Though I've always wanted a Tangiers Phunnel bowl or a HJ Mini Phunnel but the HS is cheap and from my experience I was happy with it.
ih303
Aren't those just chinese phunnels made from the same cheap slip-cast material as Mya bowls? Someone fill me in. I've never gotten a phunnel from HS.com.
Epoch
Yeah, it's the same material most mass-produced bowls are.
Matto
That will happen with phunnels sometimes, the tangiers bowls are made of a different material that conducts and holds heat better which helps to get more heat to the bottom layer of shisha though. ih303
Yeah, that's perfectly natural. If you think about how phunnels work, you pull heat from the foil over the top of the tobacco and down the phunnel. Essentially you're cooking the tobacco from the top down. And sure, you could keep loading on the coals, but a well packed small phunnel of Tangiers would probably take one person about eight hours to cook all the way through. The good thing about phunnels, though, is you can keep smoking the same bowl day after day. If you're really in love with the flavor you can pull the foil, pull out the dry stuff, then mix what's left with fresh tobacco and reload. noodle
The act of pressing clay to a potters wheel compresses the clay. Clay that settles out from slip is rather loose.
Yasseah
I like the H-S phunnel because you don't have foil sag with the hole being lower. It's shallower than the small Tangiers too, albeit wider and holds about the same amount.
ih303
I had a guy come in not too long ago with one of those. It just felt so cheap. I'm all about improving things but with Tangiers bowls there's nothing to be improved. Sure they cost more but they'll last longer and perform better. Sorry, not trying to be a fanboy here, this is just from my personal experience.

ih303
That's super cool, man. Not to hijack the thread, but does anyone remember exactly what problems the Super Chief had? It seems that Eric told me the foil would rattle really bad and make a sound. If I had acces to a potter's skills, I'd improve THAT design. After all we've got Tangiers for regular phunnels and Aliens for small phunnels. I'd wanna make something new.

[/quote] funny you should mention that. I just gave her the specs and a picture of the super chief. its like a phunnel with a built in tealite mod. Pictures when it is done. Her daughter is getting married in two weeks so the wheel is still for now. Ray
