Cloud9
Hey guys, I'm new to the hookah world and have been in search of buying a new hookah. I've been looking on eBay for awhile now to find one (since I have a gift card from there) and was wondering if I should get one with a bigger bowl or a smaller one, or if it even matters? Here's some ones I've been looking at: http://cgi.ebay.com/24-Midnight-2-Hose-Flame-Hookah-Kit-Briefcase-/150467691224?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&NHT (Non-Hookah Tobacco)=item230892c2d8 Same one but in another color (which one do you like?) http://cgi.ebay.com/Sapphire-2-Hose-24-Blue-Flame-Hookah-Kit-w-Case-/150506386334?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&NHT (Non-Hookah Tobacco)=item230ae1339e (Here's one I was suggested) http://cgi.ebay.com/24-1-Hose-Acrylic-Hookah-SILVER-/330484220624?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&NHT (Non-Hookah Tobacco)=item4cf26502d0 http://cgi.ebay.com/24-Red-Flask-Double-Hose-Ballaj-Hookah-w-Case-JXE0332-/130444198058?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&NHT (Non-Hookah Tobacco)=item1e5f1480aa ANY advice or help would be greatly appreciated. THANK YOU
jorlyfish
First of all, I think you're talking about the vase, not the bowl. The bowl is the little thing at top that holds the tobacco, the vase is the part as the bottom with the water in it. Bowls you can change out very easily, and a lot of people keep a few different ones for different situations. I advise getting none of those - and I think a lot of forumers would agree with me here. You can (for example) get a Mya hookah for a comprable price to these pipes, and you'll know its a trusted brand vs. a no-name. Those eBay ones could very well be okay hookahs, but if I'm going to drop $50+ on something, I'd rather spend just a teeny bit more (say, $70) and know it's going to be a good investment... with one of the eBay ones, you're likely going to end up buying a new one anyway... and sooner rather than later. As far as size goes, don't underestimate a littler hookah! They can also produce great clouds; you don't need a huge pipe to get huge clouds. I'd think more about what you want out of your hookah otherwise... for example, is portability important? Spend your eBay gift card on some shisha or coals, perhaps. hookah hippie
A big base has more room for smoke to build up due to their being more room available in the base. A smaller one will have less room for smoke to build up Also, the base size is a factor when determining how stable a hookah is generally, a larger foundation makes for a sturdy hookah. TweakX4
as jorlyfish said, i wouldn't go for any of those. check out http://www.hookah-shisha.com/p-184-mya-qt-1-hose-hookah.html i have that one, as well as many people on here, and it's pretty well accepted. and it fits your price range, tho you don't have a gift card for h-s.com but i'd almost be willing to bet that you'd be much happier with the mya qt than the ones you posted. jorlyfish
The QT is definitely a solid choice. I have a Mya Bambino (http://www.hookah-shisha.com/p-1485-bambino-1-hose-mya-hookah.html) that I really love. I'd like a bigger hookah too, but due to the small size of my apartment, I'm worried about space issues.
Epoch
Nammor hookahs are a favorite of mine. http://www.hookah-sh...ammor-giza.html And as far as EBay goes, Caravan Trading sells real Khalil Mamoon hookahs at a great price. Genie
Try this seller if you just gotta use that Ebay money, which I totally understand: http://stores.ebay.com/Caravan-Trading-Group/Hookahs-/_i.html?_fsub=37109&_sid=12176568&_trksid=p4634.c0.m322 This seller will treat you right and has some better quality hookah products. I notice they don't have any Myas right now, a Mya is probably the way to go if you want a cheaper hookah that does a great job. The QT or Bambino, for example, will both serve you well although I don't see either on Ebay at the moment, but maybe I didn't search well. As far as bowls (that you put the shisha in) I'd suggest a large one and a small one. A regular clay bowl for normal sessions, a phunnel for longer sessions. Personally I'm a huge fan of the Ultimate Bowl aka windcover combo bowl on small to medium hookahs. Saves you from having to buy a wind cover and isn't ridiculously huge on smaller hookahs. As someone else mentioned, it's important to know the difference between the bowl and the vase/base. Edited October 19, 2010 by Genie
Cloud9
Thanks for the response, guys. Actually, I am talking about the bowl. I know having a bigger vase allows for more smoke...but didn't know if there was any advantage with a bigger bowl. I've seen some hookahs that have a decent size bowl that allows you to put more shisha in and lay more coals on vs the smaller ones. I'm definitely using my ebay gift card on a new hookah. Someone posted a smaller one which looks similar to one I already have. It works ok...but it's very poor quality and am looking to get a good one. Also...what are the problems with having 2 hoses? I see alot of people complaining about those. My friend has a double and its been working great for several years. My main concern when buying a hookah is how well it's sealed...which of course goes back to the quality of the product. It's tough trying to find one online because you can't tell how well it's made. jorlyfish
Ah, sorry about the confusion then. You can always replace the bowls - they're (generally) not that expensive. There are pros and cons for different bowls... I pick my bowl based on session length more than anything... or how much shisha I have left. I'd wait it out a little bit and keep your eyes out for a QT or something on eBay...
SmokeyWhit
This one looks pretty sweet! http://cgi.ebay.com/Mya-Econo-Black-Diablo-24-inch-Hookah-/220684921712?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&NHT (Non-Hookah Tobacco)=item3361d8ab70

I wonder if it's so pricey because of the vase, either way, looks nice. And it's got an auto seal system, would be good if Cloud wanted to go w/multiple hoses.
