First tangiers experience....

Recommended Posts

So... today, I got some tangiers in the mail thanks to mr mushrat :D  I set it out to acclimate to this Alabama humidity... and then had to go to work.  I got back and set up the ole hookah and tried to fire it up.  Well, at first, I started to get a little bit of smoke and then it got harsh quick, felt a light buzz, but not much.  It really just got to the point of being WAY too harsh or no smoke so I took off my foil and just let the hookah sit for a couple hours thinking that I wasgonna clean it later.  Here I am now, 5:30 in the morning and I think to myself hey, I've been waiting to try this tangiers for awhile so I'm gonna give it another go.  That's when I remembered that I was using the Heavy duty renolds wrap stuff... so I pull out a screen and try it again... played with it a bit and 5 minutes later BAM.  Big clouds of smoke.  I think I can't get the full taste cause I'm a little sick... but the buzz hit me like a freight train.  Anyways, just thought I'd share :)

Great... as soon as I finish the post the smoke thins again.  The only bad thing about Tangiers is it can be so tempermental *at least to a noob like me*.  Maybe it's these dang 3 kings *i think* I got from the tobacco place that die out so fast.  I dunno :/

Users of 3 Kings (or Tres Reyes in other locals) like to break them into thirds or quarters before lighting to be able to manage heat better. My tobacco is designed to smoke with less coal so it will last longer and provide a cooler smoke. At least thats what the equations say. What do the equations know?

Spectre, which mya bowl are you using?  are you using the rounded bowl or the bowl that is more boxy?  I've had good luck with using a screen and the older style mya bowl that is more rounded with tangiers maassel. The best results i've had though are with my large "party" bowl which is more wide and less deep than my mya, and from what i hear the small sized tangiers bowls are similar in configuration.  I guess i'll find out when mine comes in.

Skimo: you can get it at Hookah Kings or HookahCompany. You only hear good things about Tangiers? Good. Let me fill you in on some of the drawbacks, and everyone else too:1. It has nicotine in naturally rather than removing it like most companies are doing, which gives a super buzz, but makes it less smooth when it isnt smoking optimally.2. The nicotine makes the tobacco more sensitive to changes in humidity. 3. Tangiers tobacco is designed to smoke differently, so that it needs less charcoal and packs more easily. Many people have trouble, initially, packing a bowl that smokes well and/or scorch it from too much heat. 4. The tobacco is cooked with molasses, which some people find objectionable. The highpoints, on the other hand:1. The flavors are vibrant and distinct, not muddy and vague.2. The flavors last longer, and the tobacco can be resmoked if it wasn't smoked out before.3. Ounce for ounce, Tangiers will pack more bowls, since it is less dense.  4. The shape and size of the pieces of the tobacco make a better drawing, more stable bowl.5. The tobacco needs less charcoal to smoke, so the smoke is cooler. 6. The molasses gives the tobacco a silkier, richer flavor.I hope that distills the pros and cons down for ya. Any others?
