Km Or Mya

Recommended Posts

I second the QT recommendation. My only problem with it is that it doesn't come with a hard case. Hard cases alone are easy enough to find with Google's help. Your hookah and everything you need for a session can fit into a very small package.

I agree that if this is your first hookah get a QT or a Chic. Ive got a chic and converted it to two hoses with a vortex bowl and i love it. I also have a KM Kaffe and i like it more, but thats because its bigger and smokes great.

I understand the QT is small and cheap, but why should he not get a bigger hookah for his first one? Im sure he's going to learn how to pack and everything in the same amount of time for both hookahs. Id say get a sweet ass hookah for your first and work with that. Theres no point in getting a hookah you didnt want just so you can buy the one you wanted later. As far as my suggestion, Id say get the KM. I love my KM and I found it was easier to maintain than my Mya Paragon. Just taking it apart and stuff like that can be a bit too tedious for my liking. Id say KM cause its built like a tank.

Only reason QT is recommended as a good first hookah is because it's a quality cheap(er) hookah. Most of the time, people aren't looking to lay down $100+ for their first one. But, if the newbie tells me "I've got hundreds to spend," I recommend a good KM right off the bat.

I understand that. Im just gettting a bit annoyed with that being the first thing people say around here. I dont see why someone would suggest a smaller, cheaper hookah when the person clearly doesnt want that and is simply asking for a comparison on two different models.

Anyway, Im glad you went with the Mya. It'll treat you very well.

Well...........Not everyone who is starting out wants to make a huge investment right off the bat, I know I (and many others) didn't. The qt is a good starting point for people who aren't exactly sure what they are wanting, or what they are doing in some cases. If I asked you 6 years ago," whats a good pipe to start with" and you replied "get a km/mya, they run $100-$200", I would have looked at you like your crazy for telling me to spend an outrageous amount of money on something that I'm just getting involved in.
Baby Steps........

It was just a suggestion, and theres nothing wrong with recommending a quality pipe to someone that is taking opinions.
The op didn't clarify until asked if it was they're first pipe or not. Note the "IF it is your first pipe........" in ih303's post. He was merely trying to help someone he thought was completely new to the hobby.

Not trying to argue, but trying to maybe bring some insight as to why people always suggest a qt for a starter.
And please do not take what I'm saying as a personal shot at you, I'm only stating what my opinion is.

I didn't take it personal at all. And I understand not everyone wants to drop the money on a KM or large Mya for their first pipe, but if someone is willing to and does want to, its pointless to suggest a QT. The QT is a fantastic pipe, don't get me wrong, but thats not what this guy is asking. Either way, I agree with Incub that people might not have read the original post and could have missed it. Sorry for the rant. I hope no one took anything I said personal.

Hey Im looking to buy me a new hookah and I am trying to decide between a KM shooting star or a Mya colossus. I woundering if anyone has tried any of these or had another hookah in mind that they thought was a pretty good deal.
This is why people started recommending the QT. We were not given the info that this wouldn't be Nick88's first pipe, and thought he might be just starting out.

Bingo! But we're getting off topic here.

Nick, at this point my recommendation would be the Temsah Thaqib. It's a killer pipe at a killer price.

I'm over paying tons of money for KM's. I hear people talk about their quality, but I just don't see it. The KM's that we use at our lounge are falling apart, granted we've used them hard for just over a year. Other than that most of the ones I've seen are hollow and generic looking. The Temsah's I sell and own are all solid stems, solid construction, and came with lower price tags. My suggestion is don't buy into the hype. KM used to be a lot better, and if you can get an older KM from the pre-crap era, go for it. Besides that, don't worry about the name - go for quality and get the Thaqib.

I have the Blue 4 hose Mya Colossus and I LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!!!!! I also got the blue Mya bambino to match for solo smoking. They are both fantastic. When I have partys, my Colossus is the talk of the party. It smokes AWESOME and with a diffuser its so silent and smooth that everyone smoking can't believe how nice it is!

I say Colossus all the way.
