Pizza Pizza

I am a pizza lover. i could eat it every day. Plain cheese, maybe sausage nothing more. I lived 14years in Manahattan and had access to some of the best pizza in the world. Most NY pizza is OK rather similar as the boys control all the supply. You buy their cheese, their sauce etc. But their are gems set about the city that make their own sauce and use quality ingredients. You get that classic NY thin crust pie, a slice you can fold with breaking but crispy, cheese that pulls into threads. Well I live in Appalachia and really good pizza is hard to find. My favorite pizzeria just turned shitty, probably trying to save money rather than raise prices. Plus I am out beyond delivery. Nobody delivers crap out here, except maybe mail. Anyways told ya that to tell ya this. There's frozen pizza in the store, mostly varying degrees of shitty. Something about the crust. I've tried the boboli crusts and sauce, a few frozen like red baron, digiorno etc. But they all suck. Do any of you all have a favorite pizza thats worth eating?

My girl and I do it cheap- Totino's party pizzas!!!

When we get real pizza we get either Domino's or Pizza Hut, but I agree with you Mustafabey, the best pizza can only be had in those special places in the big cities. The gf and I had real deep-dish pizza when we went to Chicago over the summer. It was epic. I forget the name of the place, though. As a kid traveling with my grandparents I've had really good pizza in NY and other places. I had sauceless pizza on a cruise ship in the Caribbean- that was interesting. The people there told us that's traditionally how Italians made pizza.

papa murphy's has a good take and make. They build the pizza. pile the toppings for about the same price as a two topping pizza. then you bake it at home.

Imos pizza is the best. They even do e-orders where you can order online and they'll FED-EX it to you. The catch is the minimum order is $75.00, but it tastes so good, and you can get a lot of frozen pizzas this way, and they offer overnight shipping.

LEDOS Pizza > square pizza...I order the vegetarian and put some anchovies on them myself > dine in or take out
California Pizza Kitchen aka CPK > white pizza > dine in or take out

Freschetta is good for frozen...better than DiGiornos. > I think because they put more cheese etc and the dough is better

I still can't stomach Papa Johns. Mostly because they make the outer crust so thick and huge you get $0.02 worth of toppings. It's ridiculous.

when i was in bloomington at Indiana University there was a pizza place called mama bear's pizza. they got like 2nd in the country at multiple competitions for various styles of pizza. best pizza i have ever eaten, hands down. they do that thing where you can have them freeze it and mail it to you, i think?

also a good chain they had in indiana (and some other states, but i only know of indiana) called pizza king. their pizza is the most delicious pizza i have ever had from a chain restaurant and they do the mail thing, too. those might be some options?

if you are ever in atlanta, definitely get some pizza from fellini's. their special pizza is the best, it has olives, tomatoes, onions, mushrooms, peppers, pepperoni, sausage, and extra cheese.

Thanks for all the input. papa murphy's, among many other modern cultural conveniences hasnt yet arrived in the hills of SW Va. A few of the brands you mention we don't get either. But I will try Freschetta's The local IGA has a take n bake thats about the best there is, but still isn't up t snuff.
I was born and raised in East Tennessee. Back in the 50's and 60's pizza was as exotic and hard to get as fugu sushi is today. bad boy that I was, mom and the court decided i needed good pizza and was enrolled in a military academy in Peekskill, NY. And i discovered a joint called Phil's pizza that did slices. To this day nostalgia and the first bite of this ambrosia of the gods is still legendized in my mind. Phil's was probably average NY pizza but to me it was manna from heaven

just make it yourself. i know i'm a foodie, but it isn't at all difficult. invest a couple hours of love into it - which is fuck all - and you've got a delicious pizza just the way you like it - and you made it. then again, i also don't believe in frozen food. not to mention all the processed crap and preservatives that's in the frozen stuff...

Not to be cliche but Digornos kicks ass when it comes to frozen pizza in my books, espeically the garlic crust line

and ordering out Papa Johns used to have a domination but Dominos stepped up their game when they changed their sauce and are my go-to place now.

The grease in Domino's killed it for me and the gf. Used to be our favorite, though. Now we've pretty much switched to Pizza Hut for ordering purposes. I will never give up on Dominos though and will always order there every once in a while.
