Well I Bought A New Hookah

Recommended Posts

Something that was suggested and I absolutely loved. I also took into account what others said about a 2 hose having problems vs a single so I went ahead and got the single.

Anyways...here it is. I already have an unopened container of Starbuzz 69 with coals. Can't wait till it arrives!

Oh..and I was thinking about getting this bowl to put on it. Seems like it's a little bigger and would work better. What do you think?

Nay.

Don't let the "Small" in the tangiers throw you off. This is a fairly large bowl, that will give you 1 and a 1/2 to 2 hour sessions. It saves the juice, heats the shisha better, and most importantly, gives the least amount of air flow restriction possible.

Trust me, save yourself the time and hassle from having to buy one later because you realize you need one (Like what happened to me) and just get it now.

I agree on the "nay." I could be mistaken, but I think this is more or less the type of bowl you're going to end up with with the new hookah anyway (congrats, good choice!). If you wanna save some money, go for a plain clay bowl, something along these lines: randomly chosen clay hookah bowl Or go with a nice Phunnel, or a Vortex I guess--I don't own one but people tend to love their Vortexes. I agree with Dave completely, the Phunnel is a MOST excellent choice.

I agree with the phunnel or vortex suggestions. But don't forget about the standard egyptian clay bowl. Those things smoke great and if you find a good proportioned mini egyptian, it'll smoke just as good as any bowl. I'd never get rid of mine, its absolutely perfect. I currently have two standard egyptian bowls as my go-to bowls. they never fail and its a good beginner's bowl. Plus they're cheap as hell!

yeah, pass on that ceramic piece of crap 'mod bowl' the members here make good suggestions. if you're looking for a BIG bowl, the medium tangiers is about as big as i would recommend. the small will be ample, by far, especially if you're smoking with 3 to 4 or even more (i don't really like to have more than 4 people per pipe anyway)

i would also highly recommend the call on the egyptian. every now and then i break the standard egyptians out and i'm ALWAYS surprised at how good they are. i'm using john's italian clay bowl right now and it's fantastic.

maybe it's the leb in me talking, but i always feel like i have better luck with the bowls that aren't glazed on the inside (where you put the tobacco). idk why. if you're smoking by yourself or with another person, go with john's mini. if you're smoking with 3 to 4 people go with a tang small. if you're smoking with a few people and know that youre going to be in it for the long haul - go with the tangiers medium.

snag a couple of standard egyptians, they're relatively cheap and always good to have a couple on hand.

IMHO it comes down to this - you only need one bowl. Hell, I've got a grip o' bowls in my cupboard but only ever reach for one kind - my Small Tangiers Phunnels. Oh, and I also use my Aliens pretty regularly if I don't want to commit to one flavor for a couple of days.

"What about Egyptians" you say? Egyptian clay bowls are great; I use them at my lounge for my most popular tier of hookahs. And YES, you can get an Egyptian to smoke as well as a phunnel. What's the problem then? Egyptians (and all other bowls with holes in the bottom for that matter) will never smoke well with super juicy baccy, i.e. Romman, AF, etc. It is physically impossible to keep those holes from getting clogged with juice as it heats up. Sure you can dry out your shisha before you pack it but who wants to do that?

"So then what about the mighty VORTEX?" you ask. I say vortex schmortex. I've never owned one but smoked out of them plenty of times in the past and have never been impressed. They're a pain to clean and require special attention to keep the tobacco from clogging the holes. Simply put, I see no reason to use a Vortex over a Tangiers.

(Oh, and contrary to what was said in a previous post, phunnels are PERFECT starter bowls since they are next to impossible to screw up.)

The verdict? Don't waste your money on inferior products. Buy a phunnel and don't look back. Sure it's fun to mess around with other kinds of gear, in fact I highly encourage it for the experience. But do yourself a favor and do hookah right from the get-go. You'll thank yourself later.

Respect to all my egyptian and vortex smoking brothers and sisters out there. I love you all but just prefer my phunnels. :)

I think you need two bowls, period. The bowl that came with my Mya cracked in half within weeks of the hookah's purchase. Don't count on it lasting forever. I think you always need two bowls on hand because if you break one, then you've always got a backup. Yeah, you can use fruit, but you don't always have an apple or an orange or a lime or whatever sitting around when your bowl cracks or, gulp, SHATTERS. If I were you, I'd order at least one bowl right now to go with your Mya bowl. Being me, I'd order a clay and a Phunnel. Glazed or unglazed on the Egyptian clay, doesn't really matter. From everything I've read here, they'll both smoke great.

Can't say I've ever had a problem with a clay bowl getting clogged, but that's me.

I definitely agree with the above poster about Phunnels. I bought my first one right after I bought my first hookah and I'm still using it two years later. I like it so much I bought a second one as backup in case my first one breaks but, oh so thankfully, neither Phunnel ever become unusable. My first one DID break, however, but it was on the inside where it attaches to the hookah and it wasn't in such a way that I can't use the bowl. It doesn't leak, if you didn't know the piece of pottery had broken off in there yourself, you'd never know there was anything wrong with the bowl. I have numerous clays that I've picked up on clearance along the way. They were just so cheap I couldn't pass them up. I'm happy to have them, but there's only one of them that I ever use, it's the one John sent me with my KM purchase from him and it's the largest. I LOVE it.

The bowls I use most are my Phunnel, my wind cover combo bowl (made with thinner ceramic not unlike the Mya bowls), and my largest Egyptian clay. I bought this big, funnel shaped (funnel, not phunnel) Syrian bowl that I just knew would be so great and it doesn't come close to the other bowls I use. Total waste of money.

There's a lot of haters out there on the windcover combo bowl, which is fine, I personally love it but it's obviously not for everyone.

funny...another vendor I had to kick off the forum... :)

The hookah should serve you well though. As for bowls, I have a few types laying around. have atleast 2 so when you drop one when you have friends over to smoke you don't have to go explain why you all wont be smoking after all.
