noodle
Googling for portable bunsen burners yielded a couple of things that might be useful for lighting coals when, for whatever reason, you can't use a stove. What do you think?

RingsMaster
easy way to light naturals without having a stove is with a candle and a mesh grate to put over it, carry them around when i dont know if theres gonna be a stove. works great and is compact. TheyCallMeDave
Makes sense to invest in a bunson burner, but seems like a lot more money than a torch. Not to mention that you don't know if an outlet will be available if you are using an electric burner. If using a gas burner, I would see the ratio to gas used:price of gas refills from bunson burners to that of a handheld torch. Also might want to check and see the timing it takes to fully light a coals and compare.
