Auts
I have had this small 'pumpkin' hookah for about a year now, and it has been in storage for most of that. I probably used it for 3 months before it was put away. I remember it working great, and that we had taken the ball bearings out because they were starting to interfere, so we just used our thumbs to plug one hose while the other was being used. Anyways, to get to the point, I pulled it out to use today, and it is impossible to inhale through. I have cleaned it thoroughly but alas it is still like breathing through a straw. I tried to breathe through the hose alone, and it is hard to pull air through. Does this mean my hose is ruined/plugged, or could it be something more with my hookah? Please give any advice you can, this is my first hookah and I'd like to figure out how to fix it. Thank you!
agunn1231
try getting new hoses first, seems like that is the problem
jorlyfish
Also check out your purge valve - I've noticed its harder to pull if it's closed too much, though I'm not sure if that is 100% the cause.. It's never caused me to feel like I was sucking a straw, but then again my hookah is not your hookah.

jorlyfish
In addition to what I already said...Try pulling through just the hose (attached to nothing), and if that works fine, try pulling directly from the port. If you can pull fine through your hose and hit from the port fine, it might be the hose-port connection... But as many have already pointed out, it's probably the hose. Epoch
I have cleaned it thoroughly but alas it is still like breathing through a straw.
If it's like the pumpkins I've seen, the hose pretty much is a straw.
blagage
I dont want to insult your hookah skills but there are many things that could cause your hookah to feel like you are pulling through a straw. It could very well be the bowl you are using and/or the way you are packing it. What you are using to cover the bowl could also be a problem (if you are using foil remember to poke holes). The hose could be a big issue, i had an issue with my hose. I cut it open once i got a new one and found a TON of rust inside. I was disgusted. This doesnt happen with good hoses (see hose reviews for details). You may have cleaned your hookah thoroughly but there is still the chance that the hose port has a small jam that you could not find at the start. If you are absolutely positive that none of these are the problem it may be time to get a new hookah.
r1v3th3ad
I'd recommend upgrading to a new hookah if you are sincere about it
