Purplepotatoe
Hello hello anyone who may or may not remember me. On to the topic at hand, here recently ive been having a problem with my disc coals splitting in half, and not in a nice way. Imagine a tire, splitting down through the rubber on the entire side leaving you with a top and bottom. Man this has been getting annoying lately. Sure your going to be asking what brand and what not, but ill leave that out as im wondering if ppl are having that problem with all discs. Hassouni
When all I had to smoke 5 years ago where quicklights (I assume this is what you mean?) it happened occasionally. Do yourself a favor and get natural coals. ANY brand will be an improvement

Purplepotatoe
Smoking under a non existent budget is forcing the quick lites, which sucks yes, but you gotta do what you gotta do. Hell what I wouldnt do for a nice box of cocos right about now.
Hassouni
Hell man get some lemonwood or whatever type coals - they're cheap. Hell want to be really cheap: get natural wood charcoal (NOT briquettes!!) for grilling - even cheaper
IainUM
i have had some quicklights do that. they were 3 kings. but when it did do that i just put the two halves on opposite sides of the bowl. they didn't last nearly as long since they were half the size, but it was pretty close to perfect heat distribution for a while
Chreees
I picked up a roll of 3K QLs today at the local shop for shits and giggles. I'll try them out soon and let you know if they do it or not. I always smoke naturals- CCN being my favorite. AF cocos are good too.
IainUM
why would you do that to yourself, chris? i got a chance to smoke my af nat's today, actually. it reminded me about how much i hate/how much it sucks to constantly be using ql's
Chreees
I honestly cannot tell you why I got them. I went in there for a hose port brush, and came out with AF mint, a roll of QLs, and a small 16ct. box of old formula CCN flats.

ryno
They split so you have two disks? I've had that happen when they overheat when lighting and I goto ash them. I used to light them on the stove though
ezxen
I get this from time to time with AF Quicklights . Im always on the fence week to week on weather i want a AFQL or Coconaras . Mainly how far im willing to drive if im out of coals. But i digress. IF there Af QL then i think its something down at the AF plant the coals are not being quality controlled . TheyCallMeDave
I would watch how hard you ash them in the tray... I find that a majority of my disk coal separation happens when I drop them repeatedly, or from a abnormally high height. Careful with your ashing. If it continues to be a problem, I would just get smart and buy yourself some CH quicklights, or even better, coco's.
momentum
I've used boxes of 3k and never seen that happen. I've only used one other brand of disc coals, and I think it was soex, but they also never did that. Never heard of that happening either.
Venger
90% of the time i use 3kings. I rarely have an issue. ccn and af nats are really nice but i only use them when i have the time.which is rare. Ray
