Vulva Hilarius
Been smoking around a decade, the only thing I can't stand is anything to do with the coals. I smoke natural coal which I burn on a picnic gas burner in my room. With the dirt and all the time burning the coals I've had my eye on the chinese "electronic coals" and recently saw the "Sheecool " coal burner which is attatched to the hookah. http://www.sheecool.com/products.php. I read reviews on the electronic coals, but found nothing here reviewed on this sheecool with the gas baloon. Other than blowing up from the heat it doesn't seem dangerous.
jorlyfish
I haven't used any kind of electronic coal, but I'd imagine if they were any good I'd hear a lot more about them.
mustafabey
I have seen their vases for sale on eBay, but know little about them. The website explains sort of, the burner device looks cumbersome and somehow I think I'd miss the flexiblity you get from coals. Plus you've got this lovely butane cartridge hanging off the head looking like one false move is gonna tip the whole mess over and set the rug on fire. And most seriously my brain retains a childhood gibberish word from when i was 2 or 3 that sounds very much like sheecool that was applied to certain objects that didn't please me. Back in those days "sheakuls" and shlemmies" werenot good. Gee maybe this shoulda gone in the confessions thread?
noodle
I think it would be better if they'd adapt that butane thing into a fist-sized gizmo for lighting coals.
r1v3th3ad
we woulda heard about it by now if it was any good...this company has been around for a while and no one has seemed to be impressed with their products

Matto
The problem I foresee with that burner is that it's heat is constant. When you pull on the hookah a normal coal gets more air flowing around it causing it to burn hotter (thus they glow brighter when you inhale). When you're not pulling they let off less heat, keeping the tobacco from burning. If the burner is at the temperature needed to "cook" the shisha completely then it would burn it all up much faster than regular coals and it would get super harsh because of its constant heat. If, on the other hand, it's a lower temperature then you wouldn't get complete usage of the tobacco or nearly as big of clouds.

This is what kills electric coals.

ih303
It CAN be done, it just hasn't yet. However this seems to be a pretty clever idea no matter how poorly it appears to be executed. What makes me think this (as well as some other electric coals) might have some potential is this - heat rises. What this means is a heat source placed above but not directly on the bowl, would heat up the bowl generally but wouldn't deliver any intense bursts of heat untill you pulled on the hookah drawing the super heated air down. Sure we're talking convection vs. conduction which I think we've established is not as good, but like I said, cleaver idea that MIGHT have some potential. Just a shame it's so gangly and ugly.
