noodle
I've never actually examined a hookah with a threaded shaft. Looking at Stuie's recent review of a Mya Francesco, I started wondering. Are the female threads cut into the glass directly or is that a metal ferrule I see at the top of the vase?
mitchard
I know that I have seen rotators that have the threads in the glass. But it seems most threaded vases, including all of the Myas I have messed with, have the threaded metal toppers.
noodle
Where do stories of the glass cracking with such Mya hookahs come from?
Amn_sinclair
I have seem threaded glass on some hookahs in the store but have never bought one. The only hookah that I have that is threaded has a metal base so no worries on that.
kmccoy90
I have a MYA Francesco. The base is glass, but there's a threaded metal ferrule in the neck where the stem screws in. Mine has a hairline crack right at the neck. It's not through the glass... yet. I'm not the only one I know who has had this problem, either. My friends bought a Vortex with the same thing, and the first time they screwed the stem in, the glass around the neck shredded. And I've talked to people on this and other forums that have experienced similar things, and there are some reviews for replacement bases on H-S that have the same result. I think it's just the pressure of having the stem screwed in being too much for the glass to handle, even with the caution that I've used in keeping the thing safe. I love the way it smokes, but I would definitely avoid the screw-in glass bases again. I'll probably buy a replacement acrylic "Artoo" style base for $20 or whatever it costs once this one goes. rahl071
I have a mya vortex, same as above, except no crack. The newer ones (last year or so) seem to have remedied the problem.
kmccoy90
I bought mine this summer, brand new from a Mya retailer who just got the shipment in from their factory, as did my friends. Both had the same problem. It's not just older ones.
