Chreees
I may have to try out Opera, if it's even available for Mac (not sure). When I tried out Chrome, it seemed slower than Firefox, so I immediately switched back and deleted Chrome off of my computer.
jorlyfish
I think it should be noted that Chrome loads things differently than Firefox does.... Here's a breakdown of some differences: http://www.cutthechatter.com/2009/05/chrome-vs-firefox.html
Chreees
Oh fuck me... Opera confused the shit out of me, so I switched back to Firefox. Well that didn't take long.
Arcane
haha...i forced myself to give opera a shot...even uninstalled Chrome and Firefox... it was a bit frustrating at first...Opera seems to attempt to be highly configurable, but it does it sloppily and somewhat restricted. After being spoiled by Firefox's range of control, it doesn't seem like Opera's going to cut it. Aaaand, it seems you can't stream Netflix from an Opera browser...so, definitely a no-go for me. Maybe I'll give Chrome another shot...

Click
If you think Opera is not as customizable as FF or Chrome, type opera:config in the address and be blown away. You can do nearly anything.

sagemore
Firefox for me, all the way. It's the fastest, most customizable, and just best for me in general.
YA, I'm using the Firefox/3.6.10.
Click
does that config option somehow make Netflix work?
Like this? http://imgur.com/DdMV9.jpg I admit the one downfall of Opera is that since it's market share is so small you will find things like Netflix and Google Wave that won't work with out some tweaks. You can make Opera act just like FF or Internet Explorer for the particular sites. For instance, there are some sites that work only with IE so with FF or Chrome you would have to open up IE to view, but in Opera you can tell it to act like IE and it will work. On the screen where it says that your browser is not compatible with Netflix right click and click 'Edit Site Preferences'. Under the network tab there is drop down box where you can choose Opera to mask or identify itself as either IE or FF. I just clicked mask as FF and Netflix now works. You only have to do it once - it saves the setting for all of Netflix instant queues.

Arcane
hmm......i'm intrigued again. but, when it says it acts like FF or Chrome or whatever....do the extensions not work for those tabs (i.e. AdBlock)?
Chreees
That sounds cool and all, but I'm not sure I want to attempt figuring it out again... Just gave me a really bad headache the first time. Are there any good youtube videos of it?
You'll notice that some sites don't have one of the little web icons. But that mainly pertains to small blogs and newer sites. I have had the same problem you're describing. The main way to attempt to fix it would to be sure that the page/tab is 100% loaded before you drag the tab over to the personal bar to bookmark it. I have a couple bookmarks where the sites don't have the little logo set up so it's always going to remain that little star. Make sure the logo appear to the left of the address bar. That shows that Opera has rendered it and when you bookmark the site the logo will appear instead of the star. Another way I fixed the stupid star is to load the page in question, left-click and hold on the icon in the personal bar and drag it out of the personal bar (while still holding) and then place it back. Sometimes that forces an update to the icon. Edit: Found this. "If Opera doesn't show favicons at all, turn off Opera Turbo in preferences - then load the bookmarked pages... and the favicons are back at once. Just found it out by trial and error method." Click
Another thing. Go to Menu > Settings > Preferences > Advanced Tab > Browsing sub-menu. Make sure that the Page icons drop-box is set to 'Embedded icons and favicons' Oh and about the extensions. Masking Opera as FF won't let you use FF extensions in Opera. They are introducing extensions in Opera 11 which should be out in month or so. But, Opera already has many things built in, like ad block, paste to go, right click search menus, highlighting menus, etc. Can't wait for Opera 11! Arcane
Opera > FF > Chrome > everything else... i'm converted.. Edited December 2, 2010 by Arcane
Chreees
Welp, I'm now converted as well... Jay helped me out on TC and I finally figured everything out. My head no longer hurts!!! I'm pretty sure I like it better than Firefox, mainly for these reasons: 1. The favorites on the left side is just fuckin' cool. 2. The cool panel window that pops up when you click a favorite on the sidebar, thus giving you a splitscreen of two windows, is epic. No more switching tabs... I can be on HF Chat or TC and browse the forums at the same time! 3. I really like Speed Dial now that I've put in my favorite sites. Oh, and there's a mobile Opera browser too! Just downloaded it for my iPhone, and it's now sitting in the dock, taking the place of Safari. It's the smoothest mobile browser I've used so far. Opera captures and wins my heart... finally. Arcane
ok...i couldn't tolerate the bugs anymore...for as many pros as Opera has, it just isn't as widely compatible with some websites...HF included... and you don't mess with HF and get away with it!! it's back to Firefox for me... Chreees
Yep, I had to switch back to Firefox as well. Opera was quirky as shit on a lot of things.
