Getting A Mya Vortex To Canada

Recommended Posts

Hey Guys,

Been a lurker for a while now researching which type of hookah I want to call my first. It seems a lot of people recommend the Mya Vortex for a solid built single hose smoking experience.
I'd like to order one and have found only http://www.hookah-shisha.com/p-210-mya-vortex-1-hose-hookah.html selling them.

At a price of almost 170$ us for this hookah im concerned about shipping to Canada. Since i'm not ordering tobacco with it will they still charge duty if inspected?
Apparently it comes with 2 50g samples im guessing I shouldn't opt for those to be included?

If anyone has any general advice on ordering a Mya Vortex to Canada please let me know.

Thanks! :)

The problem seems to extend to non-tobacco things as well. A couple years ago I sold some antique computer stuff to someone in Canada and the customs office went on a mad taxing rampage or something. Shipping by UPS can be part of the problem as they will "helpfully" pre-pay import duties that might not need to be paid and charge a big courtesy fee to do so. Edited by noodle

Ordering the hookah itself wont be an issue, if they tax it at all, it will just be 7% GST. Now when ordering from hookah-shisha, you will be taxed heavy on any tobacco. I got taxed for $188 on 500g of tobacco (the shisha cost like $20 lol). I would reccomend ordering from hookahjohn or hookahset, although they do not have the mya vortex.
On that note, I have a mya vortex which was my first hookah, and I love it. But KM's are also great, and IMO preferable for single hose. Either is great, but you can order a KM from the sites I mentioned.
But if you decide to go with the vortex, definitely opt out of the free shisha (unless you wanna pay around $35 for 100g of "free" shisha). They would probably give you herbal shisha instead if you asked, which wont be taxed but...well yeah.
Good luck!

Down to 5% these days ;)

Usually on items up to $60 there will be no fees. Beyond that, expect to pay local taxes and a brokerage fee. If arriving via Canada Post, this fee is minimal (off the top of my head, $2-5). If arriving via UPS, FedEx, etc, their brokerage fee is closer to the $20-30 mark.

Often you can buy from someone who will put a little white lie on the customs form to bring the value down to $50 or so and ship it by USPS to avoid any extra charges at the border. The downside of course is that you can't insure anything past that amount on the package.

Great choice on the Vortex though, that was my first hookah too :)

Hey guys thanks for all the advice and replies, I ended up chatting online with a rep from hookah-shiesha and they said I should be fine without getting taxed on the tiny samples included. Fingers crossed I've order a vortex off them and will let everyone know how it goes.

i hope so because hookah-shisha puts everything down for customs purposes and on the invoice. you are more than likely going to be taxed ordering from them! Edited by wesclrg
