mustafabey
Most of you on here were probably not born when this tragic event happened 30 years ago,but I'm sure you are all familiar with Lennon and his music and perhaps his activism. It was hard not like John, especially if you were from our generation. I danced to my first Beatles song in Williamsport,Pa in 1963. College kid on the make.I lost the music for 3 years in Asia, but when I returned the Beatles had gone psychedelic with Sgt. Pepper. My wife loved the Beatles and listened to them 24/7. I had to seize control of the stereo to listen to the Dead,Bluegrass,California country rock and other music i loved.I wandered 5 years in a desert of pain and pleasure.seeking to cleanse my brain from the horrors of a place called Nam.30 years ago today I was in a yellow cab in New York City with a punkette named Carol Crash, headed for The Mudd Club. We heard about the shooting from the cabbie,Carol never stopped crying and I never stopped drinking that night.Few events had this impact. The assassination of JFK and 9/11 were the other two.During my years living in The City(there was no other) I frequently went to Strawberry Fields, a quiet section of Central Park set aside in memory of John. Behind in on the looms the gothic splendor of John's apartment building, the Dakota, even more gloomy and spooky than it used to be. Rest in Peace,John we miss ya
ryno
I'm just curious, how did you hear about it 30 years ago today if he died on the 8th? I'm still a youngin at 22, but very much a hippy at heart. I'm sure if I was your age, I would have been right where you were. I usually take a vow of silence on Dec 8. ryno
I'll be watching things of TV about most shocking moments or this or that and as soon as they mention Lennon I'm almost brought to tears. And if I'm not ready for Imagine or Working Class Hero(my favorite Lennon song), its hard not to choke up sometimes.
