Chreees
Okay, so these popped up another forum and it perked my interest, so I did a search on here. They seem really good, so why don't we hear more about them? I've seen that they smell really bad while lighting, so if they do, then I don't want them due to I light mine on my kitchen stove. I understand they need to be cut. I guess basically I'm interested in them but would first like to hear what some people who use them currently have to say about them. The old thread I found seems to show mixed reviews. So... Should I buy them or not? http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d.html/ref=aw_cr_d_garden?qid=1291959011&a=B001EYTGUG&sr=8-
Skoozle
I think you should buy them for the simple fact that they look like the wheels on Fred Flintstone's car.
Click
I've always wanted to try these too, but have stuck with the proven hookah dedicated cocos. I wish I could find them at a local hardware store in a small box to sample.
Stuie
It's been a while but someone bought them and experimented with them.. brb... time for searching.\

Chreees
Yeah Stuie, I searched, like I said. But looking to see if people are using them now, currently. Those threads are over a year old. Perhaps Afires have changed, who knows. Main thing I'm concerned about is smell during lighting. Wondering if Charlie, Tom, and others still use these... Genie
I started to order a couple of 7 lb. boxes of these but a month or so ago I found a good deal buying Shishaco fingers for $3.75 a kilo and I've been really happy with those coals. Afires are just a little bit cheaper after that Super Saver shipping kicks in on Amazon though.... hmm, maybe I'll just hold off for awhile. I'm betting that by the time I need to order more coals the Shishaco fingers coal price will have gone up but that these will still be the same. I'll probably get these next go around. I noticed that Sears carries these Afire coals online, next time I walk into a Sears I have to remember to ask if they have these in the store. This is awesome, thanks so much for bringing them to my attention! I think people spend WAY too much on coals, I mean, they're COAL! Spending more than $4 or $5 for a kilo of charcoal seems ridiculous to me.

Genie
I'm pretty strapped for cash at the moment, I had to make myself stop and think before ordering these, I mean, I JUST ordered five kilos of the Shishaco fingers and they're on their way. So, down girl, you can wait! If anyone wants to swap a sample of these Afires for an equal amount of the Shishaco fingers, however, PM me! I'd love to try these! Chreees
See, I can afford them with my next paycheck, but I don't want to be stuck with 7 lbs of coal if I don't like em. And I've already got two boxes of CCNs, some CH nats, some AF cocos, with about 80 more AF cocos on the way from Jay. So it's not like I need them anytime soon. Lol. Chreees
But a lot of peoPle said they smelled horrible during lighting. One guy even said it stunk up his apt for a day after.

I bought like 25 pounds for really cheap before they raised the prices, they weren't too bad at all but I was sick of them by the time they were running out. I did really like charlie's method of making a foil wind cover type thing and putting an entire flintstone wheel coal in it. It would last for hours. antouwan
i used them. a local grocery store close to me stocked them, but didn't restock. they're really too big and too messy to be practical, imo. they require a lot of cutting and don't burn nearly as hot as cocos or CH nats. they're just super inconvenient. they're really mostly comparable to lump coals...just made out of coconut. they ash a lot and aren't nearly as dense as other coconut coals on the market (maybe that's why they don't burn as hot). johns coals and even cocos are worth the price difference, if only for their ease of use. i had high hopes and really wasn't impressed.
