Flavor Emergency!!

Recommended Posts

So today I went to go to a friends place because he wanted to try out
the hookah. I packaged my new hookah and my smaller some coals and all
my tobacco. I keep the small Al Waha 50g packages in the origional
boxes they came in. Meaning, I cut open the sealed package and keep the
seshia still wraped up in the plastic it came in, insude the sealed
packet and then just keep it in the box. (still following?) I keep them
all in a cabnet in the room I smoke in. and it's been air conditioned
for the last few weeks. So today I put them all in my backpack and put
them in my truck. Well we stoped to play frisbie golf and I left all
the tobacck in my truck for about 2 hours. When I went to smoke it with
my friend it all tasts horrable. Like cardboard!
They were in his house for a long time (not AC cooled) and the truck didn't get super hot. All the flavors were terable!
I let the Tangiers sot out for a good 4 hours and it was not good.
Switched to fumari and it wasn't that good. Tried my Al Waha and NONE
of what I tried tasted that good.
When I smoke in my room the flavors are awesome! I had cappuccino while
watching a movie the other day and it was awesome. Today it had very
little flavor and tasted like cardboard.

Someone please tell me I didn't ruin it all by having it in my truck
for a while. I dont even want to smoke anything because it's just bad.

The worst part is that I was raving how good the hookah was to my buddy
and how flavorfull it was and then I smoke with him and it's lame.

Nothing else changed except for the tobacco sitting for a bit in the
truck and it was warm in his place but not hot. I was using the same
hookah I have been using and also the new one I got from tangiers and
using a tangiers bowl.

well man i think everyones gonna say humidity shock. It went from being in your AC house to a hot truck then to a hot house. I think thats what depleted the flavor. I had a topic a few days ago about the crap load of shisha i bought being in the car on my travels. Well i smoked the tonigh and it was still good so i dont think its the heat. So im betting on Humidity shock. Let it sit for awhile then try it out.

I sure hope so. This stuff is sure sensetive! Like a bad girlfriend!

The bigest thing I am mad about is I raved about it to my friend and
then smoked and it was so bad. I kept promissing him something was
wrong and he needs to give it another try.

i feel ya brother... my and girl went to go smoke our shisha tonight
and i started smellin them to see what i wanted to smoke and F$*K they
all smelt like cardboard like you said... i figured i just try them and
i ended up trying 3 of them and they were all horrible... so we took
them all out of there bags to sit for a while and put them in ziploc
bags instead of just in there regular bag in there original box like
you said... and im hoping the flavor will come back otherwise to the
dumpster they go...

Wow! What brands are you using? Keep me updated on how they are. I
cannot believe they are dead forever. I mean they are shipped from
fricken Jordan to the US in the boxes. Sure they are sealed but I know
other brands aren't 100% sealed are they? Can they really end up
tasting like cardboard forever? That would really put a dent in my
collection and wallet.

OH, so its not just Tangiers! WELL!Remember my analogy of the dog chasing the car. If the car is speeding away, the dog won't catch up until the car slows down or turns around. Sometimes humidity shock takes awhile to catch up. Air conditioning is  drier than the outside air...you inadvertantly set your tobacco up to be used to an even worse environment. It will be OK, just give it time, try not to move between dry and damp.

uh...are you using the same coals as you always have? seeing that is the only constant throughout all the tobaccos, just kinda the first thing i would bring into question. other than that, just like tangy said, give it some time and it should go back to normal.

Ya. Same coals.
I have a small window AC unit. It's about 75 to 77 degrees. I think the
time I had them in the hot truck messed it up. I thought it would be ok
since it was a short time. It was strange how quick it got messed up.

So in the future who should I try to bring my stuff with me? I dont want to have to have my tobacco be chained to my house.

Hmm.  One time I left a tupperware container filled with ma'assel in the rear window of my car sitting in the blazing sun for a week, realized it was there, smoked it, and it tasted fine.  So I'm not sure about what's going on with you.  Humditiy shock?  I don't believe in it, as it has never happened to me, even when taking ma'assel from the humid climates of Western Washington and NYC to the snowy deserts of Central Washington to the dry plains of Eastern Washington.  All works dandy for me, without letting it dry out for two hours with the top off.  I keep it refridgerated and moist.  And try to keep it in cool dark places when I travel (except for the infamous rear-window incident of '05).  I've never had a problem with flavor. If it hasn't been reccommended yet, try cleaning your hookah and hose thoroughly.

Strange. I cleaned it all good. The hookah I have been using and I also
cleaned my new one out good. I am trying my Fumari Vanilla now and it
is ok. Just not as much vanilla as I thought it would be but the
cardboard taist has went away (at least for this brand) I will try
another later.

refridgerator in one of the droors and i was thinking either their
flavors got mixed or the flavors from the food got to them, but they
have been in there for about a month now and they were just fine until
last night??? who know... btw someone asked wat kind. i had romman, al
waha, starbuzz, and some amir
Humm..

I think the humidity was a big part of it like alot of people mentioned.
I have a ditital thermometer in my room and the humidity has gone from
30% to 62% lately. Right now it's 77.3 degrees in my room with 50%
humidity
I really want to pick one of those up, but I think im too cheap...

Yes, Dude, but your Tupperware was sealed...real tight, keeping the old air in there. Its not the heat or the direct sunlight.Going from dry air conditioning air to damper summer air will do it.I am adding to my acclimation and humidity shock theory. The carpets were cleaned at the house today and it occured to me...Relative humidity DOES impact acclimation and humidity shock. If the tobacco is too damp and the relative humidity is high, it will dry out slower than if the tobacco is too damp and the relative humidty is low. This explains the slow, lagging drying out thats seen in the summer, when the relative humidity is high. So, in summary, if the relative humidity is high, tobacco that is used to higher humidity (damp) will dry out slower than if under the same conditions, the same tobacco is too dry. It will pick up moisture very quickly. The opposite is true, of course, if the relative humidity is low, tobacco that is damp will dry out quickly, where as tobacco that is too dry will pick up moisture far more slowly. This explains why when the humidity is going up and down throughout the day/night (and the relative humidity is high), the tobacco doesn't necessarily find a nice, stable area to balance at, because if the humidity is high, the equilibrium is going to lie far closer to being too damp (since drying out is harder than picking up moisture).

Mr. Tangiers, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have
ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you
even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award
you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

j/k!  You win, sir!

Got all mad-scientist on me and shiat...

Man, I've got certain information, alright? Certain things have come
to light, and, ya'know, has it ever occurred to you, that, instead of,
uh, ya'know, running around, uh, blaming me, ya'know... given the
nature of all this new sh*t, ya'know, this could be a - a - a - a lot more,
uh - uh, complex, I mean, it's not just, it might not be
just such a simple... uh, ya'know?

Actually, Dude, I've notice that Mountain Dew tastes different depending on the weather. Sometimes its real stiff and slightly bitter and other times its real sweet and fruity. I used to think it was differences in the batches...until I got my own soda fountain that has Mountain Dew in it.
