noodle
While cruising Wikipedia, I came across the surprising implication that it is now illegal or at least very difficult for pharmacies in Europe to supply prescription drugs to patients in bottles. I get the idea that pills are supplied only in blister packs now. What's up with this? Edited December 14, 2010 by noodle
jorlyfish
Makes overdosing a hell of a lot more annoying? I really don't know... A google search came up with this thread, there are posters comparing from Europe and the U.S. Kind of interesting. http://m.pharmer.org/forum/pill-identification/wouldnt-it-be-easier-if
The Jester
you ask an european the problem is I dont know for sure because I dont have to but... there is really not too many prescription medicine in bottles here and there never actually was since I was born only cough sirup and simmilar stuff, and some medicine for children my grandfather had a stroke and takes about 4 different types of pills every day, and I havent heard of anyone else taking bottled medicine (perhaps people who cant really swallow pills anymore)
noodle
I'm talking about pills supplied in bottles as opposed to blisters. Blister packs just seem excessively wasteful and bulky.
The Jester
hmmmm didnt read that out of the context Ive seen pills in bottles only in american movies never here (there are some kids candies with vitamins, but no prescription medicine) but im still young and healthy so I cant say for sure
jorlyfish
That thread I posted made the point that it's easier to see how many pills there are (easy to multiply rows x columns) than in a bottle - makes for fewer filling quantity errors. Amn_sinclair
My ex gf got some antibiotics one time and they came in a pill bottle. I think maybe it just depends on the medication and how long they need it for. She only had to take it for like a week so maybe it was just more convenient to give a bottle. but all the other german pills i've seen are blister packs
