Hassouni
I could've sworn I asked this a few days ago, but can't find the thread at all, apologies if this is repetitive. I've decided to mostly use unwashable leather hoses, assigned to specific flavors or groups of flavors - mint, DA, fruit, kashmir, etc. However, none of my current hoses have been used for one flavor only. The first leather hose I have has been used to smoke all kinds of stuff, and another one has been used for orange, guava, watermelon, grape, and mint, with various combinations. Is there anything I can do, some flavor I can smoke, that will neutralize the built up flavor in the hose so I can start from scratch?
Epoch
Lemon juice is supposed to be good for getting the smell out. Try lemon shisha. And bear in mind, I just made this idea up two seconds ago.
Travis
Don't quote me on this, because I'm not 100%, but I remember someone saying that vinegar could be used to clean non-washable hoses without rusting them. The vinegar smell supposedly goes away once it's completely dry.
Hassouni
But chemically, vinegar is just acid diluted with - WATER, both things I can't imagine would be good for a leather hose
Arcane
time and an air compressor.....maybe? it's just a guess...
ih303
an air compressor
^ That'd be my recommendation.

Balthazar
time, baking soda, and an air compressor.....
Baking soda and not rinse the hose with water? Sounds like something that won't work very well ... Also, comepletely off topic, but what kind of leather hoses do you use, Hassouni? Hoses you've bought from ME or in the US? (I'm thinking of getting a couple of leather ones dedicated to a certain flavor, myself, and I'll buy a few from Istanbul for sure) Edited December 16, 2010 by Balthazar

I have a Lebanese hose similar to HJ's Syrian Beater, I have a Temsaah braided handle leather I got from HC, and my Elmas, when I finally get it, is coming with two of their awesome hoses. Get as many as you can in Istanbul, they should be CHEAP - don't pay more than $10-15 for them
Hassouni
I presume you dont get the baking soda INTO the hose?
Balthazar
But then how does it help fight off the ghosting? :S (But yeah, baking soda inside the hose doesn't sound like a very good idea)
ih303
Try filling your hose with rice.
mitchard
I put some Everclear onto rifle cleaning cotton swatches, then use the rifle rod to clean out the hose like you would the barrel of the gun. The alcohol look out a decent amount of gunk, and seeing as the Everclear is 95%, minimal water was used. After letting it air out a couple days after that, the overpowering Kashmir Cherry flavor has been reduced greatly. I might try it again to see if helps more, but so far it looks like it might be working.
