sensae
I was frustrated by how my new Temsaah Shakil sounded while trying to watch a movie, and decided to do something about it. After 15 minutes of thinking and looking around for random materials I came across the perfect materials. I took a small Imitrex bottle, removed the label and punched holes in it. Then, to get the airtight seal, I simply inverted a hose port grommet and I can stick it over the welded nut on the bottom of my downstem. Chreees
Cool, I like it! Might make myself one... never have tried a diffuser.

sensae
Reporting back after three test runs: Needs a few more holes possibly, draw is a tiny bit hard, but the hookah's noise has dropped about 75% and is smoother.
Zaber
this is a good idea! i have also found that the top half of a lip balm (the lid) works particularly well with enough holes...
noodle
Call it a "YAHD" for Yet Another Hookah Diffuser.
king_lunchb0x
this actually works great.. altough i couldn't use that bottle because it was to long and couldn't fit over my km knuckle(flare at the end of stem). So i found a super short small medicine bottle and poke holes. it fits perfect. I don't think it makes that much difference with quantity of smoke but makes it damn quiet.. if u like watching movies and smoking, make one there great! azraq
I guess I don't know what a diffuser is...does it break up to smoke into finer bubbles or reduce the sound? Or both?

shishologist
To azraq: Diffuser makes smoke tons thicker, when used correctly, and silences everything. To all others: I also found that using a small essence bottle for food works well. There's small vanilla essence bottles made of plastic.
Bawhee
Another good hint if you watch stuff on your PC like me is to get a good headset diffuser sounds good tho, my mom complains that she hears the bubbling in the living room
foxysausage
I actually love the sound of the hookah bubbling away but I must agree it does detract when we're watching a movie and the actors start with their "totally deep and cool" whispery dialogue stuff and I end up missing something that I rewind to find out wasn't important anyway. For this reason, Might look into this whole diffuser idea
Nikotelopico
I was looking into buying a diffuser, but I was wondering.... Ice in the base is a MUST for me. So would a diffuser do much "silencing" with the ice clanking around?
